Thanks for that. Since I could see the clips I gave it a squeeze and tried to lever it off at the same time and to my horror the top came off. Then when I looked closely it looks like the top is supposed to clip off and then when it does the sensor falls back into the underside of the dash...

Sorry I forgot to add the second seal. I’m pretty sure this is aftermarket as my other Clio doesn’t have this and maybe they put it in because the foam seal wasn't installed properly.

Yes that’s what I was afraid of. I thought maybe there might be a secret to minimising the work but I could see the writing on the wall. I think I will cut it then above any points that could get wet for ease of removal / drying in the future.
