Do I see your username on the side of that machinery:wink:

A few pics from my day today in Sunny Great Yarmouth Outer Harbour....

2000 ton Oil rig module lifts (Decommissioning work)

Wind Turbines land-side: and going out to be installed offshore for the renewables sector: (A single blade on the this size Turbine is 200ft long and weighs 30 tons for reference). And costs are approx £3 Million for each blade. Thats before the base is made and sunk, the towers added topside, the gearbox, the assembly of components etc etc etc.

Now you know why your electric bill is what it is !!

The enormous jack-up barge used for assembly in the North-sea. Costing a cool £250'000.00 a DAY to hire !!!!

Glad you liked

Thought someone might appreciate Engineering on a different scale !

Very different scale mate, I'm used to seeing small lathes lol!

Bet it makes you feel tiny stood next to them. Emmas dad works at felixstowe docks and he sais some of the ships there its like being stood next to a sky scraper...

What am I looking at with that Jack up ship Shuv?

It can Jack itself up off the sea bed so it's stable for installing wind turbines?

Or am I being thick?:flushed:

Does he indeed. Bet he's see' some sights too !!!

One of the cranes on a similar size barge came in a few weeks ago to change the main wire rope / drum which was damaged.

Basically they attach the old to the new, and unreel one off - and wind the new one on.

I believe the wire rope alone for that one cable weighed something like 30 tons (?).....was 3 miles long and took a crew of 20 guys 2 weeks to prepare for and actually execute.

Nuts.....

@sevenfourate AMAZING photos mate. Jesus. You don't wanna drop that on your big toe! 2000 tonnes!!!

Loved the wind turbine blade too. Really love those things.

Yeah I'm a sucker for big engineering, don't understand any of it mind.

If you like that sort of thing, are you familiar with the Krupp Bagger 288?
