Tyre pressures for snow

Guys, is there anything you can do to the tyre pressures to make driving in the snow easier. Obviously the standard 215 tyres isnt ideal, and nobody wants to spend £600 on snow tyres. Would increasing or decreasing the tyre pressure help at all?

Was thinking along the lines of more pressure, less tyre contact on the road. As good as thinner tyres??

Anyone able to help?

I tried both last year mate, less pressure is definitely better.
If the tyre is too hard it doesn't mould to the surface.

I had mine on down to 26 when the roads were not clear (fresh snow).

After last year i have ordered some winter tyres but they are taking a long time sort out.
They are not essential; as people keep tell at me on here; but by summers tyres are very poor in the slippy stuff.

did read an article on advice about this in a mag and they said leave pressures as standard...

In fresh snow, higher pressures should be better.

On compacted snow/ice low pressures will be better

The thinner the tyre the better is snow is what ive heard so high pressure sounds right to me but then your putting un needed tension on the tyre wall which im sure isnt very good.

the less surface area on the road i.e high pressure the more grip you should get in snow. so i would have thought high pressure
