Steering wheel same on none-sports?

I have been looking into making my own flat-bottomed steering wheel for a while now and decided to finally get the ball rolling on it. Rather than butcher a perfectly good Renaultsport one, I'd like to attempt on a wheel from a standard Mk 3 Clio (not to mention they're cheaper to buy). So wondering if the wheel is the same underneath all the trim and foam? Because when trimmed, the Renaultsport wheels are chunkier. Just wondering if perhaps the skeleton underneath could be thicker or if it's just padding, smoke and mirrors to get the thicker profile?

197/200 Cups have the thinner, non-RS wheels. They fit exactly the same.

I'd imagine that the actual frame/loop of the wheel is identical, it's just the padding/leather that's different/thicker.
