Slave Cylinder - SLIP

Afternoon,

I'm probably preaching to a crowd that know way more than I do about this. Took my 200 in for the dreaded 4th gear crunch to be checked out and the synchro on 3rd & 4th is shot as expected.

As a separate issue I mentioned some intermittent clutch slip and it turns out the slave cylinder is pissing fluid everywhere (technical term), talking to the mechanic he said 50+% of clios that come in (Renault Main Dealer) for new clutches actually only need a new slave cylinder but get conned in to an entire 'kit'. Maybe one to watch out for?

Cheers.

i was looking at getting my slave cylinder changed and from an independent renault specialist garage they want £600 plus and they have advised me to get the clutch done at the same time which is £800+ including the slave cylinder pretty mental really mega £££

This happened to me whilst on the buttertubs run with the renaultsport club lads, I had the whole lot done as the garage showed me the old clutch plate and it was worn so close to the rivets, ask to see the clutch first as it was expensive.

To be fair, it's best practice to replace the clutch whilst its apart, especially if it's been contaminated with brake/clutch fluid! It's no extra labour (well, maybe 15 minutes) and for the sake of an additional £150-200 it's worth doing.

Yep, this all over! Such a false economy not to do the clutch and slave at the same time.

Agree with this 100%. Only time I payed near £800 for a clutch fitted was when I had the Focus ST. Cost me around £850 from memory but the clutch kit (clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder) was over £650 as it was all uprated RS stuff.
