Sideshowfreds Ultra Red 200 -- Fully Caged Track Toy

Going to look great ! Good luck getting all the mounts / frames sorted.....

And yes. Red backs would be 'tacky' imo. Cliche as it might be....Carbon ? Or just plain black ? Dark grey to match the dash etc ?
Well I bit the bullet and ordered the frames this morning. Guess i'll just have to make them fit! I know what you mean on the seat backs. Red might be a bit over the top. Don't want to do carbon as I don't think it'll look good wrapped in that style. I like the grey idea, maybe an anthracite metallic wrap?

Looks great!

If we ever do the same track days we'll have to do something to set the cars apart for the photographers. :tearsofjoy:
If we ever end up in the same place at the same time I am pretty sure i'll end up walking to the wrong car!

Had a productive morning yesterday with the day off work. Luckily all the bits I had ordered turned up by Thursday so thought I would put the Pole Position in its correct position. I've got to say that the Recaro direct fit frames are wonderfully made and offset the seat perfectly.

The only problem is they sit the seat at the normal height setting which was a bit of a surprise. I'm going to have to re-think my plans for the drivers side now as although the OMP frame I currently have is too low, I don't want is it high as the Recaro one will put it.

So they next thing to do is sell the factory CS's to fund the other PP and whatever sort of frame I end up using.

Slight sideways step for the Clio, got fed up of the mis-matched bucket seats so have stuck the factory Recaros back in for now. I can't bring myself to sell them as I feel like I won't be able to easily sell the car if for any reason I have to with two buckets in it. The Sabelt will be up for sale shortly (if anyone is looking for a single bucket seat let me know) and maybe in the future I'll get a second Pole Position cheaply and look at having the pair retrimmed.

I've also removed the Michelin sunstrip as after the track wheels sold it just looked a bit OTT for the daily commute. Slight issue has appeared since the weekend in that the exhaust seems to have a loud rattle on startup and when you gently blip the throttle once warm. Have been told it might be a baffle that's given up so think an email to k-tec is in order to see if there's anything they would do about it.

Been a little while since I updated this thread. I've once again had some mixed feelings about the car, mostly down to having the normal Recaro's back in and not enjoying the driving experience.

Anyway, couple of trips to Wales have happened along with some new front brakes and an oil change

So that is how the car stands at the moment. I have decided that I need a long term plan with this thing. I've had to cut the track days out for the next 12 months as I have a wedding coming up next summer, but after that it's going to be plenty of planning for making this a proper track weapon (assuming it doesn't break in the meantime).
Needless to say I'm looking forward to the future long term ownership of this car.

It's been a while since I've out anything on here but I've started doing bits to the car again, albeit fairly slowly. I fell out with it again for a while but with its value pluming daily I couldn't find anything I would genuinely want to change of for that was affordable. First thing was to buy some fittings to get the Pole Position back in. Just before Christmas I bought a set of the Rentune direct fit frames from Facebook and on Christmas eve the seat went in.

So the plan is to get another Recaro bucket sorted, leaning toward a Profi XL as the higher harness holes will mean I can once again run a harness due to the slots on the Pole Position being too low down my back. Also a roll cage in the back. Just need to decide whether I save for the seat first then sell the factory Recaros to fund the roll cage or do it the other way round. First World problems and all that!

Think that’s the best option seat out there! Looks great!

No trackdays planned yet, with a wedding this year I haven't got the spare funds. That said I'm keeping an eye out for the Evo magazine track evening dates as they are always enjoyable without the expense of a full day. I have got some road trips lined up though to keep me entertained.

Time for an update I really wasn't expecting to make. Three weeks ago on my way to work I I was taken out on a roundabout.

The car has been declared a write off due to the repairs needed but only as a category N. This meant I decided I was going to keep the car with an original plan to break it for parts. Then at the weekend I decided to strip down the back end to find what the real damage was.

All that is broken is the rear axle, and the bumper guide. The rear quarter managed to be kissed and the wheel has some chunks out of it. All this means I've got a project on my hands. All I need to decide now is how far to go with it. Half cage and carpet left in as I was planning on doing or go all out, strip it bare and full cage it into a proper track toy. I would love to go racing in it one day so maybe use this opportunity to make it MSA compliant? I'm still planning on doing road miles in it so we will wait and see but it's nice to have the options. This thread may start to get more interesting now!

sorry to hear man...whats the plan then??will repair it yourself??may not be as bad as it seemed at first...

Yes plan is to repair it myself. It only looks to be the rear axle and a bumper guide so not too bad really.

Definitely an every cloud moment, in many ways it allows me to do what u wanted but if far from the ideal way of doing it. Spoke to my insurance earlier who are happy to keep me insured on a mirrored policy once the claim is fully settled but will have to be for a maximum of 3000 ish miles a year which isn't so great

Shame to hear this but pretty lucky with the damage, or lack of:wink:

Have you managed to source a rear beam? Is the suspension ok?

Yes, I'm going to pick a rear beam up tomorrow. Need to check the shock absorber properly but looks like it should be OK. Hopefully I will know by Sunday what I need to actually replace. Then need to check 2 of the wheels and get proper alignment done on it. Once I've got that sorted it's onto a cage and another bucket seat, as long as the suspension doesn't eat up all my budget!

Another week another update. I don't seem to be hanging about with this car! New rear shocks turned up in the week along with a new bumper bracket. Saturday was spent putting the new shocks and the old springs back in place. Then it was time for the wheels to go on so at least I can move it about on the drive.

Then Saturday evening I arranged to pick up a new seat down near London. The chap turned up towing a genuine Cup Racer and allowed me to have a look inside. With the new seat I was already in two minds what sort of route the car would go down but the racer just made the decision for me. With a very limited mileage policy this car might as well become a full on track car. So yesterday consisted of getting the old seats out and starting to strip all the interior plastics out. My factory Recaros are up for sale then one they go its time for a full roll cage (any suggestions welcome, current thoughts is the Safety Devices RO23 so anything of the same style and budget will be considered). The only slight issue is that although I fit in the new seat its rather snug, god knows what Recaro class as an XL but it's not what I thought it would be! This slight hitch is to be continued..
