I'm looking at getting another smartphone / contract - and initially I was torn between the iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 - i've decided i'm not a tw*t so can't pull the iPhone look off.

Now my question is, as i'm going to be locked into the contract / handset for 24 months, have you guys got any heads up as to when the S4 is gonna be released?

I've heard rumours of May 2013, but a mate seems adamant it'll be in the next few months?

  2. It only feels like 5 minutes since the S3 was released!

There isn't a set date yet, but I guess you'll know more coming over the next few weeks....I'd hold out as I think the S4 spec will be huge!

The rate of progress is mad isn't it?!

Cheers - I suspected as much as there's a fair bit of info on TechRadar.

Think i'll hang on and see what's announced.

If the rumours are true, it's going to be a an amazing phone. It'll just trump the iphone, hands down.

Not really. I'll be waiting for the S4, then owning that for the best part of 2 years. And as it's going to be released in the not too distant future, it makes sense for me to wait.

The S3 titanium (Or what ever its made of) is the phone I'd go for if I wasn't Apple obsessed.

I went for the HTC One X over the Galaxy S3. Near enough identical spec, both have great screen, camera, and NFC tech built in. Previously had an HTC Desire HD, so stuck with them, best decision I made. Can't see the S4 coming any time soon. Rumors are abound that it will have a 5 inch screen too, which is simply too big to slip in your pocket. S3 and One X are perfect size.

  11. I'm waiting for this to come out also.
Have until October ish to run on my iPhone contract so fingers crossed its as good as it sounds:smile:

My 24 month contract for my iPhone is not up until Sep. 2013 but I will definitely be going Galaxy then. I'm going to pay for the phone in cash and get a cheaper monthly plan. I'm sick of the hefty monthly premium.

Why ask the question if you are going to wait unless you will then wait for the iPhone 6, then S 93 iPhone 100 etc, etc

Why be arsey? I appreciate all the replies I get and respond to them politely.

    No need.

Yes, I agree that you could forever be waiting for the next model, but for the sake of waiting a few months, it'll mean a more future proof and 'current' model. Nothing wrong with that.

Also lol @ the ludicrous model numbers to make your point. Behave.

  15. Most apps don't use the power of the S3 so waiting for the S4 seems a bit pointless.

I have an iphone 5 (yep, b1tch to Apple and proud) but am happy to say the S3 is an awesome phone.

Thing is that it should be the OS that determines your choice rather than the hardware.

Choose the OS and the rest is easy. If I didn't run my life on my iphone I would get a Windows Phone 8, it is the business.

    I'm not been arsey

You asked if you should wait or buy.

When I said you can always wait for a new model you were said you weren't waiting.

So why ask if you had already decided to buy?

If you are deciding against one over the other you will always be waiting as they always release at different times. That's all

That would be down to Moores Law:

Moore's law is the observation that over the history of computing hardware , the number of transistors on integrated circuits doubles approximately every two years. The period often quoted as "18 months" is due to Intel executive David House, who predicted that period for a doubling in chip performance (being a combination of the effect of more transistors and their being faster).

The law is named after Intel co-founderGordon E. Moore , who described the trend in his 1965 paper. The paper noted that the number of components in integrated circuits had doubled every year from the invention of the integrated circuit in 1958 until 1965 and predicted that the trend would continue "for at least ten years".

His prediction has proven to be uncannily accurate, in part because the law is now used in the semiconductor industry to guide long-term planning and to set targets for research and development . The capabilities of many digital electronic devices are strongly linked to Moore's law: processing speed, memory capacity , sensors and even the number and size of pixels in digital cameras .

All of these are improving at (roughly) exponential rates as well. This exponential improvement has dramatically enhanced the impact of digital electronics in nearly every segment of the world economy. Moore's law describes a driving force of technological and social change in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

This trend has continued for more than half a century. Sources in 2005 expected it to continue until at least 2015 or 2020. However, the 2010 update to the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors has growth slowing at the end of 2013, after which time transistor counts and densities are to double only every three years.

Hence why new 5hit comes out all the time...

Digital, have you thought of getting an iPhone 5 on a 12 month contract and then getting the s4?

Yes a 12 month contract will be high but you will get £200-£300 of a iPhone 5 I would have thought so it will claw back the extra you pay for the 12 month contract.

Realistically the S4 won't come out for 4-6 months at the earliest if it's not even been announced so the chances are you are half way through the contract and won't pay that initial hit on a just out phone.

  19. I was looking today i read s4 in feb. So i will wait for that. Might skip the nexus4. Seems worth it im hearing 8 processors. Overkill. Just why its perfect.

  20. iFone by far, I wouldn't touch anything else, and I'm not a hype-jumper, I've used Apple products for almost 20 years and they've never let me down.

There has to be some people out there to keep the inferior brands selling though.
