Restoring a car

been looking at restoring something, not sure what yet. Poss a 5gt turbo or similar.
Anyone have experience..? Do people pay £15 grand for a mint 5gt? Or eighty grand for a turbo 2..? Is a left hooker alpine 5 turbo close to me but no idea of costs involved. Not looking to keep but sell on.
Please move if wrong section,,!

You will likely spend more than you will get back if you are trying to move it on, if your going to do it,

do it so you can learn and have the joy of owning something you put a lot of graft, money and arguments with the other half

I’ve found a gt5 turbo raider near me it’s sat there rotting and the bloke will not sell it, such a prick for letting it turn to dust on his drive

Some people are mad. Lol. I checked on a 5 alpine I've been watching on eBay as I thought at three grand it was worth a punt to restore bit it's over six now ! It's not something I want to keep either. But have been looking at 5 gt s too

Makes me shudder thinking back to when I had a 5GTT - if I had the chance to get one and restore it, I'd rather eat my own head. Watching that insufferable oddball on Car SOS puts me off even trying to fix something over a year old :tongueout:

I've restored many classic cars over the years and it is very time consuming and if you're thinking of doing it to sell one of the things often overlooked is time taken. If you put a cost to your time then there's very little to be made on most things, obviously this does depend hugely on the starting point and size of the restoration. Its worth thinking about a car that still has parts in production since it can sometimes take a while to source rare parts that's one of the reasons both minis and escorts are still so popular, it's not just the nostalgia it's the fact you can find everything you need for them (more difficult with period correct parts obviously). If you can do the work yourself it will save you a fortune.
