Realiability of Meg 270/300 bhp engine on standard Clio box?

As most of you are aware the Clio synchromesh are made out of chocolate and seems to be a problem on standard n/a engines let alone Meg engines

so how many of you are running Clio boxes with 270/300? And how long have they lasted?

Or or is it not even worthwhile, and stick a Meg box in?

please let me have your thoughts

the power won't really affect the synchro's, moreso the revs do which are lower with a Megane engine so basically they would hold out longer. Power wise i haven't seen anyone reporting they broke any of the gears so no problem there either.
Cazan racing put 330lb/ft through the 197 clutch too so it seems this is stronger than a 225 clutch....

I'm sure I read somewhere on here that the clio gearbox is rated at 180 lb/ft so if true it's a bit of a lottery putting 300lb/ft through them.

I'd like to think that putting nearly double the torque through them will certainly affect them.

Who rates gearboxes?

vw's dsg's are rated to 250 and cope with 500+, only way you're going to know for sure is to try, and it has been tried before

According to Engine Dynamics, it is an engagement issue that affects most gearboxes. I'm sure there are plenty of 1*2 owners running the 280 bhp turbo conversion on the standard gearbox. I'm sure the 197 box can take 300 lbft

To be safe I threw a paddle clutch, uprated slave cylinder and 660 fluid and fluchs oil. I'm running 286, similar torque and not had any issues yet. Depends how it's driven tbh.
Users break the gearboxes by ramming the gears, need to wait to the gears to catch up, no need to force gears.

I'm also using Clio box only conversion with paddle clutch as feel the ratios are better for track days.

Was told by clutch supplier to use Renault slave cylinder, Danny, who makes the uprated one as may get that instead.

Hi Guys. I got myself a 225 engine and is also planning to retain the clio box for better in gear acceleration.

But so far i couldnt find a clutch kit that is organic disc yet able to sustain 300lb/ft of torque. I am avoiding paddle pads for its short lifespan.

Second question i wish to know is if i am able to rev the 225 engine to 7800rpm with arp conrod bolts?

Btw i am running delta ecu.

Any advises are greatly appreciated.

I don't think it would be making any sort of power at that rpm but it would be interesting to see if it can rev that high

i ran a clio box for a while atough it delt with the extra tourqe it was horrible to drive with spinning up the wheels at every opertunnity 1st and second were a real handful since changing to the megane box its alot easier to drive and the gear ratios are much better for the engine definatly feels quicker the long gears making the most of the tourqey engine id highly recomend everyone to fit a megane box if possible

My Megane ran 288/310 without any problems. My Clio has the Megane box, running 320/340. For me, the longer ratios are essential as I do travel from Thurso, to Spa, and around the Uk. I did try a standard 197, lovely car, but I prefer the longer ratios. Neither cars have had any problems with Gearbox/engine/clutch.

If you go meg box you are driving a Megane really minus 200kg??
For me I have a Megane I daily, so it's more excitement when I go in my Clio with the Clio box. The gearing isn't as bad as people say mated with the 225 engines
