Love 5 turbo's owned a couple of tungsten grey ones myself many moons ago .
I'll never forget mine, in tungsten also - F550 NJH and my mate's was F450 LMX. Not sure how I remember these things when it was a good 18 years ago we had them!
@elcie Thanks for the response about the diffuser, I like the 197 and would happily have one on my 200 - may even sort out the resonance I get from the Scorpion, but would need tips fitted.
F497 CEW Tungsten Grey
Looks great, I love the pic on track at goodwood.
Thanks, yeah it's a good picture, ill dig some more out
So after striping the car down, found a few ball joints could do with replacing, they weren't to bad but rather do them now,
Lower arms, dropped them off at a friends work shop, the lower ball joint that goes into the hub screws out with a bit of heat a punch and hammer, new OEM ones to be screwed back in, and the rears pushed out on a press ready for black power flex bushes.
Going to give them a little clean up but no paint as they are alloy so won't rust,
Also sorted a box of parts to be powder coated, and cleaned the parts in the black box ready to be refitted to the engine.
So being 6ft tall, I find with the seat far back, the steering wheel feels a little stretched with the harnesses on,
I see this neat spacer a guy in Monza, Italy the he had made up to retain the standard wheel as we want to keep the controls and clubsport look, please get in contact with him if you want one, not cheap mind around £170 with postage
This steering wheel we had re covered last year by Royal steering wheel, great turn around and they do a fitting and exchange service. Loads of options but this is grey not black alcantara, grey stitching and yellow band to match the rev counter
Not yet fitted but here's just another picture of the steering wheel, there is a thing I've seen where you can space the column down, say another 10/15mm with nut or spacer, we are going to do that at the same time to get it drop down some more, as those standard Recaro CS seats sit so high it used to feel normal.
got that steering wheel spacer from Giacomo_rs too. best mod on my car.
Cool was it hard to fit? I think my brother mentioned you had to extend the wires?
The first pic of this thread is absolutely epic. The stance, the angle, even the roll cage make the whole thing look purposeful.
Great work and thread. I've looked into this spacer from the italian guy a few years back but the fitting sounded a bit fiddly so I dropped the idea. Let us know how it goes with this mate.
Thanks Yiannis! agree I love that shot, had it put on a canvas for the wall for Christmas
Here's another shot of the clio's stable mate in the barn, Stage 4 R35 gtr 640bhp
hardest part was figuring out how to remove the airbag. from there on it was a breeze.
yup, you have to extend the wires for the airbag and CC. explanation in this thread ...
here's a link to a thread with a YT video on how to remove the airbag ...
Thanks, thats great will have a look and follow.
Some parts back from the powder coaters
Gearbox engine mount
Engine mount cover
And a few other brackets, not going to mad as you won't see most things and still want the car looking O.E, these cost £100 as it is. Really pleased with the results, so much better than painting due to the durability and long lasting.
Finished the heat shielding on the bulk head, added some extra in areas and made it wrap around the servo, as the car did melt the vacuum pipe once on track before we owned it.
And just cleaned the best we could.
Covered the said vacuum hose, and made a shield
Cleaned and covered the steering rack with some heat shielding, held tight in place with stainless steel cable ties
We wrapped the down pipe in bronze heat wrap, will get it heat coated next time its out but had this so used it up.
Finally, cleaned up the new engine, just waiting on Renault for some new gaskets and we can start building it back up.
Slow updates, even though the car is in the garage Its an hour away from home so finding time is hard with studying an apprenticeship and college work.
Went to Autosport back in Jan though, great event, any one that hasn't been needs to go next year!
I know I wanted a few bits and its a great chance to get some good deals bouncing the big companies off each other, most offer vat free without asking.
I got a Schroth Hans device after looking at all the other ones, being nice I just wanted Schroth
And also a carbon Bell gp3 helmet as my current bell you can't fit the Hans posts. Still waiting on that to arrive though.
Ordered new drop and sway bar arms, means that nearly all the front end moving parts have been replaced along with the poly bushes
Genuine Renault turbo down pipe studs as I had one drilled out and heli coiled by a machine shop as one had snapped in the exhaust housing, all new copper nuts as well with steel inserts, also all new studs and nuts on the turbo to manifold
Thats about it, went to refit the engine last weekend, re fitting the clutch a bolt snapped in the single mass flywheel halting play that day, my friend removed that at his work shop in the week and I ordered new Fly wheel bolts from Renault parts direct and some new ARP bolts for the clutch off eBay. Soon as they arrive its just a case of clutch gearbox on and I can drop the engine back in.
Some final random pictures, Bedford Renault sport track day last year
Driving around Germany with my mate last year after some laps
Finally cooling down after some Nurburgring laps
I was thinking of coil overs but seeing how good this looks I think I'll get some H&R springs! Great Clio!
So finally the ARP clutch bolts turned up from USA after snapping an OE one in the flywheel, I ordered ARP ones as they have a normal hex head opposed to the Renault that are torx, New genuine Renault flywheel bolts.
Used some 270 loctite on them,
Engine is now in and with the ti heat wrapped down pipe,
New lower engine mount, we went for O.E quality as didn't want the car to be to loud or underivable with solid mounts on the road, still using the power flex insert though, you notice the old one had a small split, £20 off eBay I thought it was worth doing seeing as the upper gearbox mount has been replaced too.
Great thread, love the look and the spec of the car. Looks like you have had some fun with it
Stripped out the A/C pump for clearance of the new Megane r26 rad and to save a little weight, cheapest A/C delete kit on the market, plenty off how too's if you just search, this is all pretty much old waste now.
And a new belt for good measure, also got a spare now, 1125 7PK is the code, only about £12
Ordered a Forge motorsport collant hose kit, laying out and swapping over the turbo water pump.
Ordered a black blanking bung for the intake silicone hose, doing away with the oil return system and going to be running a small catch tank
Ace looking car. I saw you have the H&R springs, looking at getting some myself. I know that the later cars need a different spring such as yours and mine (mine being a 2011 car). Are these springs the correct choice?
