Phenolic Spacer, useful or useless?

Hey all,

Was talking to a friend a few weeks ago who's planning a fair few expensive engine mods for his 197. However one is cheaper, its a Phenolic Spacer.

Having read the gunf on the internet, they claim to do two things:
-lower intake temps.
-a tiny increase in torque due to longer intake tracks.

So on an engine that is practically standard is there likely to be any difference? I am happy to take a punt on it for the £30ish but if its a complete waste I'd rather save the money!

I've had one, inlet stayed cool, but it'll be honest, normal driving or on track will be fine, moderate gain in traffic pretty much

To add, I've done an engine swap and I am not fitting one this time
