Nimbus 197 - Track Project

Hello, first of all my name is Dan. I had an Arden Blue Astra VXR before this. I have had the 197 for around a month now and it has been bought with the intention to turn it into a track car, I have already done an evening trackday session at Snetterton (local track), this was when the car was bog standard and I must say I was impressed with the car as it was, before this I had a full service done including cam belt, water pump, aux belt etc, had a wishbone changed on the passenger side as the ball joint had seen better days.

So basically I have bought a few bits for it so far and I will list them with some pictures;
KW V3 Coilovers
Wheel Spacers
2 x Sparco Rev GRP seats with matching frames, runners and side mounts.
2 x TRS Clubman 4 point harnesses.
Aftermarket Steering wheel
Yellowstuff brake pads

There is more to come, I will be looking in to uprated discs for the front, braided brake hoses, some millers updated brake fluid also, I would like to get a cup spoiler and front splitter. But for now I just need to get the suspension fitted, setup and corner weighted then just enjoy it for the rest of the year before having he clio cup spec safety devices cage fitted the early part of next year, changing the exhaust and induction kit, exhaust wise I am thinking about the Oreca Group N exhaust or I'm thinking of going down the custom route but I'm yet to decide, then having a remap ready for a couple of trips to the ring next year detouring to spa as well.

anyway I have a couple of pictures which are below

First of all a couple from the trackday....

A few of the goodies I bought for the old girl.

So.... I have stripped all the interior, door cards, all airbags literally everything out the rear, I have left the front door cards and radio etc just for a little comfort as I still use it every now and then on the road.

whilst doing that I removed the seats to fit the new ones, here is the end result.

Sprayed the front grills cause they were past it

Spacers fitted and after just a clean, I need to machine polish it as it has a couple of minor scuffs and a bit of marring, so it is in need of a good detail which I will get round to over winter.

So basically that is where I am up to so far, I am off on holiday tomorrow so I am having the Coilovers fitted when I get back all ready for another trackday at snetterton on 29/09/2014 and hopefully cadwell and Bedford in the next couple of months as well

Comments/criticism/advice would be greatly appreciated.

very cool project buddy..will probably subscribe to it aswell..keep it coming...

The car looks good mate, keep the pics rolling. Did you weigh the stuff you removed by any chance?

My only criticism would be the suspension choice. This is a track car, you should have gone for ASTs.

Thanks mate, I didn't weigh the stuff no, I didn't realise the front seats would be as heavy as they were, I have budgeted everything I wanna get and the AST's were just gunna end up to pricey, I know how good they are as my brother has 3 way adjustable AST's on his track car, they are a brilliant bit of kit but as I say they were just out of my price range.

Ah are they? Must have gone up then, when I got mine they were only £100 dearer than the V3s. A bargain at the time if you ask me.

What car has your brother got if I may ask? 3 way ASTs are super expensive...

i just went on what they cost my brother, also the guy that done my cam belt and water etc said they are £2k+ and that the KW's will be more than good enough so just went for them instead haha

he has a 106 GTI Turbo - @ 26 PSI it is 414BHP, here's a video of it from our most recent trip to the ring (only running around 10PSI on the video though)

414 bhp on a 106 blimey! It does shift on the video as it is let alone when running 26psi..

Just had a quick look, it seems that ASTs did go up after all, £1750 for the one way ones without the top mounts...

Yeah it gets a bit scary when it tries breaking traction in 4th haha

thats still cheap for AST's, they are quality, I did think they were a bit more expensive than that if I'm being honest.
