ITG Filter

Hi I have had my filter fitted for about 7-8 months i think, and i took it out last weekend, and it had quite a bit of black engine oil on it, i checked it becasue the car just had a service and i wanted to make sure they didnt' change it, i am thinking maybe they swapped it for someone elses :S has anyone elses got thick black oil around the bottom edge, its not like dripping off, i just didn't expect it to have oil on the outside part of the filter

the filter is coated in a green sticky oil - this is for dust retension - after a while the oil collects at the bottom of the filter - i take mine out and rotate it
180degrees so the oil thats collected is now at the top and is good for another few months before swapping round again

I clean my K&N filter with a K&N Recharge kit every 5000km or every 3 months:

thanks, i just wasn't expecting it to be thick black oil. i will get some cleaner, its probably done about 5k miles

How long do these things normally last? Do they help the car breath a little better?

they usually come with a lifetime gaurantee. They assist induction as they are more free flowing than the crappy paper ones
