Identifying gearbox code

I've been to see my tech tonight to have a listen to my noisey gearbox, and he's confirmed that its going to need swapping out sooner rather than later. Having looked at this thread http://www.clio197.net/threads/197-and-200-exactly-gearbox.13137/ I know that I need a TL4 024. He's got a spare box which is going to be overhauled, and then put into my car, but I'm trying to make sure the box is the same version, with the same ratios before we start any work.

We've found the code on a white label, but it doesn't match up to the numbers in the above thread even though its definitely out of a 197.

Does anyone know how to identify them properly?

Are you sure it definitely came out of a 197? That code, TL4 387944, shows as a megane scenic box after a quick Google.

Cheers guys, i'll go back and have a look on the end of the box to confirm. A bit worrying though if it googles as a megane box! Might be best to go down the longer route of taking my box out, refurbing and then re-fit.

I have a 200 box, came out of my car, it's perfect. I've had to change it as mine getting converted. The box is in Milton Keynes at Beaniesport just sitting there not doing anything.

OMG, wish i'd known that a week ago ! Just spent £600/£700 on recon gearbox with the steel 3rd and 4th syncros.

I

Is that a fitted price? I'm going to do mine in the future
No m8, all in price for Renault recon box, clutch, slave cylinder kit and fitting by independent Renault specialist was just over 2K. Got the box coming from Renparts £700, then £100 back when old one is picked up. Clutch and slave cylinder kit came from Renault Parts Direct £220. Fitting will be about £400. So about £800 cheaper, than original quote.

Would you be able to let me know who's fitting it for you? Seems a fair price. Can PM me if you prefer. Thanks

Sorry Wid for hijacking your thread mate

There's a good chance that's a photo of the label on your old box then dude. We were looking at it trying to figure out the codes  I take it yours is the silver 200?

Beaniesport is charging a lot less than £400... I highly recommend him if anyone is looking for a good tech
