iAndy's 172 track day project

Ok after much deliberation I decided that modifying the 200 for a trackday toy was daft, only getting the car less than a year ago brand new meant I would throw away too much by stripping it etc, plus weight wise with trailer and car my jag won't pull it to track.... So hello 172

Found on cliosport and in reasonable good nick was this 2002 ph2 172, in march last year Mick @ Diamond Motors did the belts and dephaser and the reciept for £663 came with the car, along with old mot's and history. Last MOT expired in December 2012, so onky two weeks out of test and no advisories, only negatives that car has is a bit of rust around arches and a dented passenger door.

So with price negotiated all was arranged to collect car yesterday, woke up to some quite bad snow but that wasn't stopping me, main roads clear so go for it. Got to guys house and started the car up and she sounded good, went inside to pay and came out to it loaded on trailer and ready to go. Took a few attempts to get onto trailer due to snow. Getting off the side road with a trailer on back in the trusty skoda I had borrowed off mate was fun but hit the main roads and home shortly after.

Wasting no time the stripping began

great work andy, looking forward to seeing it go!...quick little cars the 172's,especially when stripped out,i've had a blast with a few and there's nothing in it

Going to do some more weight reduction in next few days, seen a few idea's over on other forum and some drill big holes.... Dunno if its wise or not like lol

Nice work mate, as long as you're not drilling anything structural then go nuts hahaha!!! Will you be putting a cage in anyway at some point I imagine?

Yeah cage, buckets, harness before 1st march... A good service and brake overhaul. Then coilovers, and onto engine mods. Oh and I want NOS lol

I'll get some photos of how to best strap one on this week too by the way, you could do with a couple of shorts so you can loop a strap behind each wheel or at least opposite corner wheels. If it's strapped on like you have their and the door lock pops or the trailer gets a bit of a wiggle on then you might end up being overtaken by her hahaha!!!

Like this (if the photo uploads)...

Let my mate do it.... Mind you he strapped my motorbike on once and that fell over lol

Love MK2 track projects. This will be good to watch.

This the one your bringing to How Fast?

Well it depends..... might just do one last go in the 200 if we are doing a weekender of it.

Ooh a bit of a class challenger for how fast

You cant leave the front door cards in like that tho!!!

Making some custom door cards this week mate  just left them on so they don't get damaged, gonna take them off and make some templates and then some nice flush fitting ones, retaining the electrics.... for now :tongueout:

You aint seen my cable tie and rewire skills!!

All fully functioning without the cards in place til we cut some templates, did you have air bads to de program or are you running with the light on?

Am just waiting on the resistors coming before I run car again, was going to relocate the switches to a panel inbetween driver and passenger where the cupholder was, I had something similar in my zetec-s but that only had switches for aftermarket chav-ness like airhorns, neons and stereo lol

At moment cobra monaco, cheapest I can find is £380 for pair thou :worried: plus subframes or make some custom ones

They're quite a comfy seat actually better than a number of more expensive brands, me and stuie did the full test at dt to see which were best value for money, have a nosy on jjc they did have some decent offers on for pairs of seats on the website that werent on their ebay shop...
