Hi, thinking about buying a 197?

Only my opinion but not sure why owners bang on about MPG on these cars. If you want good MPG buy a Prius not a 2 litre hot hatch.[/QUOTE]

I agree if you want good mpg buy a diesel

Not worried about mpg. My current car is 2001 BMW 525. My average mpg is 20.1 mpg. Can't see a 197 being worse.

I agree to a certain extent. It's more to do with the mpg being poor for the performance available. Nobody expects a 2 litre N/A hot hatch to be economical but getting sub 20 mpg or even mid teens is really pushing it. Obviously this depends on the type of driving you do. That being said, the 197 is an awesome car, and I can't see myself ever selling it

Make that 3 clio 197's I've walked away from now! some people have such a strange idea of excellent condition. 3 hours wasted.
Trust me mate it took me years to find the right one as I'm very particular. Travelled far and wide, went to see countless mint condition, FSH etc that turned out to be average. Found one local with just a couple of flaws - split window seals etc, cheap fixes but I felt the price was too high, mulled it over for a few days and it was gone. Found my R27 on piston heads whilst on holiday in Gran Canaria and stuck a deposit down straight away. Over the moon with it.

Even the most economical car will show less MPG in town stop/start driving. Heavy right foot doesn't help though. :ninja:

It's the traveling that pees me off. When you very clearly ask about stuff e.g. Dents and scratches and when you get there they have point blank lied! Aaahh! there's a few within 60 miles that I feel are worth the trip. If there no good I'll just wait. I'm to fussy and tight to rush into it.

I live in Glasgow and bought my last 2 cars and bike from England.

Have you got any pictures on here of your R27 locke ? don't think i've seen it .

Thanks mate I got it trailered up from Harrogate. Took the picture that day, once the spring is here I will give it a full service and detail. It drives and smells like new and Renault specialist Rentec gave it the all clear. Worth the wait.

How long did you wait before you found it ?
Can't be many of them left in that colour/condition and mileage .
