Hi jim c and car is a white 197 cup

Hi new here, mid life crisis has produced a white 197 cup, quite impressed so far, standard as far as I am aware apart from a cone filter in engine bay, to be removed asap, as its sapping hot engine air, will replace with k&n panel filter however will need to source a standard airbox, also noticed knock off n/s rear suspension, and syncro hub on way out as its grinding slightly coming down the box into 4th gear, it was an impulse buy for some fun, and although I am a mechanic I don't know the history of the 197s I will commit to improving it and finding out what ever there is to find out about it, hence signing on here, I am however very familiar with the basic megane/laguna 1.4 1.6 2.0 16v engine and changed many head, valves ect due to failed water pumps and broken t/belts ect, also the standard megane, clio, laguna box in my experience can be a bit problematic, in th two day's I've had the 197 the box is my gripe, and the gearing will take a bit of getting used to, although I understand that this is necessary as the car is naturally aspirated as opposed to a turbo, however this is something that I would like to look at as I feel I am just starting to enjoy it then the rev limiter kicks in, anyway moan over I am looking forward to learning from other people's experience and maybe contribute some of my own in the near future cheers jim.

Thanks I feel a journey coming on, however probably my biggest problem will be learning to work through this forum properly as my computer skills are non existent, I seem to be the only one to have posted my name up, however you live and learn cheers

Welcome, my 197 is in for engine rebuild as I speak :worried: I've not got any issues with my gearbox though, a little stiff on a cold morning but nowt major. The mechanicals are hit and miss from car to car I'm afraid. If you find the ratios to close and your box is shot, you should source a 200 later style box, longer 5th and 6th gear.

welcome along..think there is a standard air box in the for sale section..you need to become a member to be able to view it....
have fun on here..may need your help since you are a mechanic :thumb:
