Hi guys, this is my first thread so bear with me

I just got my racing blue R27 last week and I am busting to get started with the tuning! Got a itg panel filter ordered from K tec and Im bidding on a ktr cat back exhaust from ebay at the min.

My previous car was a 1.6 16v fiesta zetec s so the 197 is a massive jump up in power. But I have a couple of questions which I'd love someone with a bit of experience and more knowledge than myself to answer. (and yes I have read as many threads as I could lol)

1) Do cat-backs without a remap produce flat spots?? Iv noticed the flat spot up 2 about 2,000rpm so I dont want to make this worse! And reading things on here has kind of put me off an exhaust

2) Are re-maps worth the money? Will they fix the flat spots?

3) A few threads have said that 197's as standard do not have the power from the factory they are supposed to! Is this true??

4) Has anyone with a few basic mods broke the 200bp mark yet?

Thanks Chris...and Merry Xmas!!!

Hi!

Let's get started:

1) Yes

2) Yes they are, but only when combined with some mechanical mod like the exhaust

3) Yes, it's true - mine had 185bhp, now it should produce +193bhp (Miltek exhaust with 200cell sportcat, remap, R3 airbox, lightweight flywheel). Here's the link to the clio197.net dyno archive and take a look there.

4) AFAIK, no one...but there are ppl that have stated they have done just that - but, I don't believe their dyno's.

Welcome mate, as Raptor and Kevo said really.. Enjoy the car and produce power as you go along.

Good choice of colour btw.

Thanks...i dont no if im happy or pleased about the feedback lol...im booked in for a dyno so il hav 2 jus wait and see what iv got! but yes your right i should enjoy it as it is, but im sure you all understand the craving for more power!!

Celtic tuning are claiming after the remap my clio should be producing 210bhp!! but im now very skeptical!

they obviously dont know anything about the clio 197 then, :blush:hmy:

if you get 210 bhp from just a re-map please get me booked straight in if you can, :w00t::w00t: ( impossible tbh ).

what are they charging for the re-map Chris, ?

welcome to the site chris.

You may get 210bhp after their map.
But on "their" rollers it may say you have over 200bhp to start with.!
All rollers will give you a different figure and all rollers will claim theirs are the most acurate and just been calibrated.
All you need to look at with rollers is how much more you get after a mod. Not the actual claimed bhp it's self.

Welcome to the site mate.

If you find a map that gives you an extra 10bhp, whoever does it is likely to be very busy for a while :tongueout: Make sure you post up any results if you have it done, comparing before and after!!

i got 8bhp from the RSTuning remap.
but 25lb t.

Seriously? 8bhp would take me up to the magical 200 mark if I went back to the same rollers, but I'd be more interested in the gain rather than what the dyno says the power was...

I didn't think maps for the 197 were very effective? How much do they charge for it?

Celtic tuning do the re-map for £275, but i dont think I'l go for it. There not renault specialists and claming an increase of nearly 13bhp sounds a bit 2 good 2 be true. Anyone got any experience of he map offered by K-tec?

What about SKN-tuning remap (originally from Germany, but we also have them here in Slovenia)? Does anyone know If their remap is any good? They promise 161kW and 237Nm:rolleyes:, but in reality...??

True. :thumbup1:

Only with the remap or you had some other mods as well?

Me too, but as you can see, they are effective - the gains only with the remap are bigger than mine with the Miltek and a remap...:confused1:

I was thinking about the SKN remap too but the figures are 2 good 2 be true - and when I had only Miltek exhaust I was faster then another 197 with SKN & Miltek catback - maybe the driver was bad...don't know really...but then I started to change my mind - and the price of the SKN remap didn't help too.

with the r3 airbox is it hard relocating the battery? iv seen a few with the battery moved to the boot and another with a racing battery fitted. Also iv been trying to find somewere that sells it!

the R3 is a very expensive mod for little gains again mate, I just had a "super chip" remap and that gets rid of the flat spot....... why do you need to go faster anyway? a BMW 730i couldnt keep up with me on the motorway yesterday and previously ive beaten c280 kompressor in a straight line . .. . . honestly just enjoy the car for what it is . . . . maybe an exhaust fir the sweet sound N a remap for the flat spot is all you need. oh and the ITG is a bit of a waste of money too.

Ha, lol Ive spent £££ and only make 203 mate, made 184 STD!

^^^this.... rollers read different, and tuners like people to be happy and spread the word, worryingly for more than a few this means fudging results!!

sorry for the bump but, i've had a few cars on he Celtic tuning rollers, and had a few maps done, our vw transporter made 83bhp standard (manufacturer states 84) and then was mapped to 160 bhp yes its a turbo diesel but the relative difference from standard.
we had it on another dyno vreputable Dynodynamics, and produced the 160bhp as claimed. but i do doubt they will get 210 bhp with the 197
