Exhaust Advice

So it’s seems like my temporary fix of welding up the exhaust has lived up to the expectation of lasting me no more than a few weeks! (I’ve re-adopted @BigBen recommendation of turning the radio up!)

It’s rattling better than ever, the exhaust appears to be blowing and i know the performance is only being hampered by it! My fight of keeping the Clio completely standard may finally be coming to an end!

So it’s time to weigh up my options and gaining some advice...

My dad did some research today and told me to take a look at what KTEC Racing are offering - http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=3658&appid=3

£594 fitted, and with a lifetime warranty, anyone currently running this or have any opinion regarding this?

I’ve also toyed with the idea of an Akrapovic system (obviously much more pricier!) but I’m still unsure where it stands with MOT/Emissions etc. and whether I may have problems as it states “not for use on public roads”.... but is that aimed at specific regions such as the US?

Apologies for the essay, and any feedback I’d be grateful for!

The Ktec is pure manifold porn however yes it's pricey, Toyo is the cheaper alternative however most have issues knocking on the subframe (believe @Big Ben is selling his?)
Tbf you should be fine with emissions on the Akra proving there is still a cat in the mani. Dont remove both

Thanks Beany,

The manifold on the car is in good stead, flexi’s also in good condition... past that though it’s seems most problematic. When the car is sat on 2,500RPM it droning, whether this is a case of the baffles going (from what I can gather from Google?), and you can hear it blowing when revving stationary!

Would you change out manifold out as part of the process whilst tackling the exhaust, or wait until the manifold perishes later on down the line?

What happened to keeping it standard out the box Ross

I had a scorpion resonated on mine which I loved! So would recommend, however the ktec is a decent exhaust also!

Yeah like many others I've got a res scorpion on mine and it sounds good, I've got a decat after the mani and it passed it's emissions  also adds some nice pops.

We've guys over here that are running it without second cat (cat replacement pipe) and still met emission regs which I guess are a bit stronger over here. Some reported that they had to warm the car up to pass the test in before but that's it.

I'd guess Akrapovic is just playing safe with the "not for use on public roads" here. That's because it simply is too loud for some countries with stronger regulations on this. Besides that the cat replacement and center pipe with the resonator don't have an EC approval which means they have to be approved seperately each time while the exhaust itself already has an approval and doesn't has to be registered.

I had a cat back resonated Scorpion and loved it Ross. Engine Dynamics supply and fit them and they come with a lifetime guarantee as well.
They’re just down the road from you I believe

Edit: I still have the exhaust!! It just sounds a bit different now:tongueout:

Winner winner chicken dinner???

i have the above Ross..i have been in love with mine since it got fitted..great sound affect when giving it some..cant go wrong with ktr mate..

@Marsch good to know that people are running it, I’m just dubious with both the price tag, and then forming out that much to then have problems with the MOT, all being having a friendly MOT tester nearby!

@Chris91 you know how I wanted to keep a prime OEM example, but i know if I replaced the system with genuine Renault it’d be a crazy price for it to then rust again later on down the line!

Great shout @BigBen, I didn’t even think of Engine Dynamics, but know a few members running scorpion and all give good reviews! Hope you’re enjoying the new beast on a side note

The KTEC does sound good on their website, but I hadn’t heard much of anyone running it and I’ve never heard it in the flesh!

you did mine last year I think anyway..now it's gone turbo so will sound different.

I didn’t hear it :worried: I was already sat down awaiting my delight of a ‘Christmas meal’ haha

Albeit many comments were made about how loud it was haha

yeah but i chopped the silencer out and it got replaced with a straight pipe so a bit louder..the one advertised has a silencer included...

Your a young lad @RossWoods93 just get a non-res and have done with it

Haha I will not cave into these ludicrous suggestions!

I think the Akra (as much as it’s lovely) price wise doesn’t add up, so I’ll look at the Scorpion / KTEC options and see what takes my fancy!

Very true bud!

Shame I've not still got my 197 so you could have a listen!

+1 for Scorpion through Engine Dynamics. Res sounds INSANE at 6-7k, especially through built up areas, I quite enjoy keeping it in 1st for a little while then chucking it in 2nd going past pedestrians with a nice crackle and pop. Such a child but oh isn't it fun.

Pretty rare cars round my way, really entertains me when people smirk saying it's just a boyed up Clio, not expecting it to actually shift..

Still running standard engine mounts! I feel the manifold will be a job for a later date as well!

A friend suggested Miltek, I need something that won’t be too loud piddling around town, but then has some life higher up the revs!
