Cambelt and service before selling?

Will be putting my car up for sale shortly to make way for me new BMW M140i

It’s a 2009 197 with 62,000 miles. The cambelt has never been changed (as far as I know) and it is due an oil change. Is it worth me doing it before sale, had some quotes and will cost me circa £500 to get both done at a local Renault specialist. Will I be able to recoup this cost by raising my asking price or am I better asking fo less and just making the buyer aware that the things need doing. Alternatively I could just get the oil done which will be under £100 probably and leave the cambelt for the buyer to do. I am aware the cambelt is well over due - no need to remind me ha! I’m obviously trying to eek every penny out of the sale now

Seeing as it's already WAY overdue...if it was me I'd sell the car without it being done, as you're unlikely to recoup that £500 come a sale.

Got a similar situation myself, it's due it's 2nd change this year (Service due in circa 4,000 miles) and I'm planning to sell/part-ex the car before that rolls around. 3 years of ownership I think it's time for a change

i say keep the car as when you get board of the bm you will wish you still had the clio. ;-)

Yeah that was my thought to be honest. Might get the oil change done, as it won’t cost too much and will be a positive selling point and will help it sell quicker even if it won’t add value. I’ll leave the belt, I suppose by leaving them the buyer may have better peace of mind getting it done by somebody he trusts.

And yeah, not sure I’ll get bored but we’ll see! 340bhp not to be sniffed at!! Was contemplating making the Clio into a track-goer! Be better off buying a higher-mileage, cheaper car for that though, mine is too good to be stripped out ha!

Tbh any buyer unless they are thick will bid you down if it hasn’t been done! Most buying know about the belts and pump service and near always ask, would make an easier sell I think if they were done!

Hope it doesn’t snap in the mean time though!

If you do bite the bullet like I did you'll be more inclined to keep it, the only issue selling with cambelt overdue (especially if it's never been done) is that you hand over the money and it snaps halfway down the road, this might put many people off.

Your going to be hagled down by £500 either way so depends how quickly you want a sale...
