Calling a moment for Mes

I have a bit of a thing Lotus having owned 4 of them at various points, everyone should own one at some point...and yes on the S1 metro wing mirrors, peugeot light swwitches....Im more of a fan of this one though...

Exige-cup-360-pitlane.jpg

I have a bit of a problem with this one. It's a bit of a styling exercise really. In my opinion it shouldn't have the "Cup" designation as it's not built by the motorsport department like a cup should be. They'd already closed it down by the time the 360 came along. Plus it's missing lots of important cup features like a baffled sump, external electrical cut off and fire extinguisher buttons etc. Also it was heavier than the 350 at that point which is frankly daft. But Lotus are daft full stop!

Plus while I really like the front access panel I'm not a fan of the engine cover, much prefer the glass one, even though it's heavier. Seeing the engine adds a lot of visual drama for me.

Bit of a charlatan really and I'd much rather have an original motorsport cup car for sure.

That said, it's bloody gorgeous! The Essex Blue one Bell & Colvill did (they made two!) looked absolutely incredible. Plus they added Ohlins which is obviously pretty awesome! Have you seen the interior? Those carbon seats are straight up porn!

£70k car though.

These wheels on that Exige would look amazing imo:

Agree mate!

But that's wide bodied so not so much fitment issues. I think I'm going to have to live with the wheels for a bit. I have a few other things I'd prioritise over new wheels. But it will happen eventually. Although when the decision comes, it will mostly be made on weight rather than looks.

That Liz looks amazing though for certain!

@kevlar which Lotus have you had mate? Any pics?

No photos with me I had an s1 Elise in Norfol mustard standard car, absolute gem of a car, then had an s1 exige it was supercharged and I hated the bl00dy thing didnt keep it long maybe its true about meeting your heroes I hated it it was really a track car, just to far for my liking...later on I had a VX220 Turbo great car quick etc etc, but I never really bonded with it like my slow standard elise.

Later had an S2 sport with the toyota engine now that was a fine car, again not the quickest just a really nice car to drive....

Would love another one one day, sadly finding a good one means some seriously deep pockets!.

I had the chance to passenger in a ver heavily modified s1 exige with an audi engine in it tuned to about 300bhp i felt physically sick when I got out of...un natural how quick that wasvery quick to 140 something then it was off the speedo...alo went in a fairly standard s1 elise with the audi engine pushing about 250 ish and that was much more civilised would have loved a honda converted elise back in the day!

That's a quality list of Lotus there mate. I've been in a few mental S1 Exiges and although it was an amazing experience, I don't think I'd have the driving skills to drive one. Just far too mental.

I'd SO love an S1 Exige. Best looking Lotus by far for me. Laser Blue would do nicely!

They'll you what mate when I get one I'll be going forged

Not sure about that interior but MY GOD!!! Look at those wheels!!!

Epic.

Problem with the Lotus is the sizes are totally daft and given the 17" front 18" rear tyre choice becomes a surprisingly big issue too. Plus you're limited to about 9.5" wide at the rear, maybe 10" at a push so getting dished wheels is kind of pointless. The factory forged ones are ok but just not special enough, and I'm not really a Team Dynamics fan. So if I want forged (which I do!) the only option is to go custom really. But obviously that's a pretty large outlay. Probably enough to buy a nice Clio!

Anyway, I'll be totally skinting myself for some time ahead so it's a decision for the future. If I'm lucky, maybe there will be more options by the time I get to it!

But seriously, LOOK at those wheels!!!

Lol, I know mate, that's the only way to get what your after is the custom forged route where they mill everything bespoke! Prob about 2k a rim all told!

They do look nice though

I know the sizes are a bit of an ares ache but I'd prob go up an inch on each on dia and look at width with very slight stretch to achieve something like the above, wouldn't be overly buying to drive like a nut, more for the look of it, there's always going to be a trade off in the looks v performance department they way I like my cars styled

Yeah mate. Although I'm feeling like it would be the right thing to do to go function over form on this one. But I'd probably struggle to stop myself!

Part of me would love to go all out and have a good old laugh at what the Lotus purists say. Some of them are proper stuffy! They'd have kittens over a bit of poke and stretch!!!

That alone would be reason enough for me Mes !

I'd also invest in the best camera i could afford to take shots of the 'offending' example and post on every forum i could to shove it right up their noses. Anyone who attempts to preach to me where the boundaries lie regarding my taste and my wallet is going to come away grossly unhappy......

Ha-ha. Semi-humorous. Or was it....

Seriously. Any mod done to impress (Or otherwise) someone else is time, effort and money wasted as you'd well agree.

The choices and chances to be individual and express yourself are endless. And in my book should be done for that reason alone.......

Definitely singing from that same hymn sheet mate! It's a weird one huh, kinda goes against the idea of posting photos of your mods on here!

But yep, I do it for me and Mrs M and that's that. If people like it cool, if they don't, it's not going to shake my love of the car one tiny bit.

Funny how people get bothered by such stuff. I had one guy shout "you've ruined your car" from the window of another BMW while in traffic. I just found it really amusing.

For sure !!!

I think where the lines blur for me - is where you've done a mod / are about to do a mod and ask for opinions.

I'm guilty of this - but do generally and genuinely go with what i wanted / my gut feeling in the first place. Opinions being like bum-holes and all that; its easy to get swayed to please the madding crowd....

Not human nature not to be wanted / liked / alienated though. So easy to be a 'sheep' and not do something outside the box for fear of 'rejection'.

That was all a bit deep wasn't it. I feel like an agony Aunt right now. We're talking about bolting a filter on / fitting bigger wheels or adding a spoiler here; not coming out as a Chinese, cross-dressing, trans-gender, homosexual atheist
