Boosted 7UP track toy - New Toy Revealed

Getting jealous now... :tongueout:

How much did it cost you to get it done, bar the new exhaust? Looking to do it myself, but not sure if it is feasibly possible on my drive. Did you need any special tools to do the job (obviously bar the engine hoist etc)?

its difficult to price up as I fabricated and had a fair amount of parts already, then I went and got silly things like the paddle clutch, full exhaust, things that weren't needed but I wanted. They are not drop in and drive conversions, the engine bolts into existing mounts but it's the other parts that don't.

i budgeted £2.5k but blew my budget almost right away so carried on

Update:
---------------
So the car passed its MOT and is now fully road legal!!, got my exhaust all fitted, sounds stunning. There's a couple of surprises that should be here next week so again il post an update then.

The paddle clutch isn't anywhere as bad as people claim, just abit heavier and bites abit more but what do you expect.
ive also booked myself in to the renaultsport day at Bedford on the 12th! Day after snett track day.

slighth issue with my dash, maybe just an earth but need to look into it, basically cars reading 7miles at 3/4 full tank and MPG of 0.8 haha!
nothing that effects the drive but I'm abit of a perfectionist myself so like things spot on.

I decided it's not practicle to drive my family around as much as its fun, so it's going to be my toy. So stripping it out and safety devices cage had been ordered, roof scoop also ordered so now the final piece of that will be a cup racer spoiler!

This looks unreal, wish I had the skills to pull something off like this, good work mate, all the best for future plans

Love this, kudos for doing it yourself too. If only I had the patience. Don't know if you've driven one before but the engine really makes the clio the car renault should have made.

Update-
--------------
So been driving the car now and it's spot on! Minus this little dash problem it couldn't be much better. Went out in my megane and I just can't stand the ratio of the gearbox on it, so I'm glad I stayed with the Clio box.
So now I've got my yokos on the front, picked my rollcage up, harnesses arrived aswell as my fixings and tow strap.

More pictures time!
So MOT the other week, Stuart came down, went out in his car, absolute animal. Loved it

Doing a pre MOT check at beaniesports before Chris drove it to be MOT'd so thought it was a good opertunity to take a pic of the exhaust.
Decat from turbo, straight pipe to backbox, not too loud. Kind of unique sounding, the people who done my exhaust specialise in racing parts so the exhaust systems tend to work to keep noise levels down due to track regulations etc

Next it was time to take a trip up to see Mark Fish Motorsports, so began to strip the car out for my cage, so here's some pics I took of it all being installed.

With the cage in and a small drive I noticed the cars turn in was better, but abit too much oversteer, so I dropped the rear of the car abit more to try get weight on the rear.

Now it sits allot nicer also handles allot better, doesn't want to push under steer either so hit the nail on the head with that

So more track day prep, kam give me abit of threaded bar so I can make my tow strap hidden so it doesn't stick out like a silly tongue.
Pain in the ass to chop down!

Next up my harnesses arrived, and brackets, I've not gone for eyelits yet as I'm waiting for the right bucket seats to choose and I didn't want to drill two sets of more holes in the floor, so these will do for now until I get fixed buckets and I can use my eyelits

Update!
------------------------
Atlast another update,
So it's been a very fun week I've had. Il let the pictures do the talking.

So before I went to RS Tuning for mapping I wanted to get a few bits sorted, so I installed my harnesses and custom tow strap.

I made it so I can put my plastic cover over it as I don't really like the towstrap tongue look.

3773D316-9D04-4D89-82FB-1F0420D77D7D_zpswlraaem1.jpg

And harnesses were installed

DBFC386F-CA53-4C3E-B3D5-8BAE5B80F4A1_zpsuwhg6bkz.jpg

So I left around 5:00am to get kam and head upto Rs Tuning, I could spend all day at the place, I really enjoyed others talk and also Paul and specky were a good laugh too! Really
Knowledgeable too.
Anyway got praised on how neat my install was and was very happy about it. So that was an added bonus, however he hated my option of intercooler and hardpipe kit (SC Auto) got told it's a cheap janspeed intercooler, he was right it does next to nothing as you look through one side and you can see straight out the other end! Temps went from 22 to over 40!
The kit itself was leaking, Another issue was somehow I managed to plug my oil sensor and knock sensor in each others wrong place. So when Paul was mapping he couldn't get his head around why the timing was being pulled so much. Anyway specky got under it and switched them, sorted my boost leak out and done another pull and instantly got 25bhp from that. Prior to mapping I told him some figures I was after and he listened and mapped it very well.
Car ran 237 stock map, after mapping It ran 286bhp and pretty much the same torque, I kept it low due to running the Clio box and to say I was looking no more than 290 he done well.
I was booked in for 10am and I started heading home at 2pm! Great people and great laugh, I'd happily drive even further to have them map my car again.

Also this week Stuart popped over to have his rear sunstrip installed so had to give a few photos of both our Meg conversion clios together now with his rear sun-strip

1B20D35A-6E24-49F9-8393-47E5F551D180_zpsfngvn1oj.jpg

Next up was further prep for the 2 track days I had, so GoPro! Made myself a mount due to not having time to buy one, it's mounted a little high so I will be doing it off my cross bar next time.
Exhaust clamp and dremal to cut it to fit, done the job.

Added sticker from rs tuning

Thursday!
Next stop, snetterton! My first track day. Kind of nervous about it, so went up with a couple mates in clios.

86243377-74FF-4A79-9666-5CC18FA6B7C7_zpsqp0wg60o.jpg

The car performed faultless, only issue I had was my brakes faded the first session I went out and next session towards the end my car was shaking like crazy under braking. Kind of ruined my day but I still tried to make the most of it by going out a couple laps at a time. I enjoyed myself but still in my head I wish I opted for a better brake set up. So kam took me out in his for a few laps chasing caterhams, the things incredible on r888r and cupracer suspension, braking on the last marker coming under the bridge.
It was at this point I decided I needed the brake set up he had as it worked.

Friday morning,
Managed to get hold of a new brake set up, so went over to KamRacing, picked my parts up and then headed straight to Bedford autodrome! Never had been here before either. So kind of followed a few people around the site and everyone was very friendly and helpful. First job was to take my brake set up off and replace it with my new set up, so waiting for other to arrive I jacked the car up in the car park and got to work. KamRacing told me the break in procedure for these and I was shocked but! It worked and they were spot on all day.

Cheers to everyone being helpful at the renaultsport day! Met up with Jack and Lewis who have a storm grey R26 engined Clio.

Had so much fun at Bedford, wasn't sure I would enjoy it as it seemed abit boring, on track it's completely different and now I had brakes that I could stomp on and be out 30mins at a time without any issues. So thoroughly enjoyed it.

I did book on to drive the Clio 220 however I stayed out in my car as I was enjoying it so much.
Only thing that I need to note for next time is bring some spare fuel as my fuel light come on on track.

Evening coming to an end and had to take a few photos, really hot day and car was spot on all week done a fair amount of miles and only issue I had was my brakes.

9CBBADA4-E165-4172-AFB3-CD85199E640C_zpslptdyx50.jpg

Hope to get on track again soon! Loving track time.
If people are serious and need help with conversions with wiring I will provide the diagram. However I won't be posting it to public just yet, as it's something I want to share with people doing conversions and not just people who want to do conversions.
Its still difficult making the correct lengths and you will need to be able to solder fairly neat and not messy.

I will upload it once I've spoken to admins to make it a sticky

Small update as I've not been doing much to the car.

sold my recaro seats without planning to but got offered a price I couldn't say no to and have some new cobra buckets along with renaultsport cupracer sidemounts.
cup spoiler fitted plus wrapped the top part of the boot black, mocked my sprayed scoop up, just not had time to cut the hole yet. Plan to do this over her next couple of weeks. Also, replaced my leaking turbo coolant pipe, noticed again this is a common issue with the r26. So new one on it seems to have fixed the leak.

so a few pics of how the car stands now.

New turbo coolant pipe since mine split

Just a pic of the engine bay as it is now. Not keen on the plastic tubing, so may remove this and wrap it in Renaults loom tape

AA70D176-8911-4231-B9D2-3AD9DC98DAAC_zpscwr5bwp4.jpg

And lastly how the car sits with the spoiler on and top wrapped black and also the roof scoop in the position I'd want. So making a cardboard cutout to template the scoop so it's easy to cut in my roof.

Just updating where I am with my car now, not allot has changed. New seats are in, scoop is attached, finally cleaned it, debadge and carbon tips and just really been enjoying the car.

I'm in the process of getting my hands on a set of Clio R3 coilovers and will soon be having my car fully set up over winter maybe squeeze another track day in before Xmas and then out again about Feb!

Few pics of recent days with the car

So seats in and mounted the passenger seat pretty low and as far back as it could go then suited drivers seat to me

Took a long drive up to see progress on Luke's Megane build on his car and help out with that. Picked up his Clio box ready for when either my box fails or when my other halfs 197 fails so thanks to Luke for that!

Great story here, it seems that you massively enjoy your car, which looks awesome I have to say:smile:
Thanks man! Yeah cars are made to be driven, no point hiding it away

Is that the R020 cage Danny?
Yeah with door bars and diagonal rear section with harness bars

Great read! car looks great! Bet you cant wait to get some more track action!

Appreciate it! Glad the cars getting some recognition and respect being home built!

Yeah looking forward to the new suspension, more track focused in terms of handling

Whats your next plans / to do list?

I bet your misses was over the moon for getting a trip in the car haha

Next plan is sorting handling out then really getting to know the car and how it reacts etc with my new coilovers I'm having set up, more track time and maybe some 1-1 tuition to improve track driving.
Then just enjoying the car

Future plans will be lsd in the Clio box, forge my engine and run a bigger turbo set up, external fuel system, something around 350bhp will probably be useable.

Surprisingly she was happy to go out, since we've got kids we don't get much time to spend doing things such as going out in my car, it's mainly her 197 or my Megane rs which is tame to my Clio haha.
She was very surprised with the car
