juat wondered if anyone can assist, friend just rung up in tears, she bought son a samsung netbook for xmas, his older broterh decided to drop a can of deodrant on the key board, no leakage but when you switch on it says read disk error,then cont alt delete to continue comes up with a bios ??? type screen and f4 to resote, came up with samsung recovery sol 4 but nothing else happening!!!



any suggestions

You'll most likely need to run the recovery option if that came up, have you got "recovery" disks or the windows disk (these odten don't come with machines now) ?

If you need any help and can get some detailed info as to what comes up then I can help a bit more.

even model details of the laptop in question would be good.

its a samsung n130 running windows 7, when she started it up said ???? read error

then a bios type screen and f2 set up or f4 restore

pressed f4 and screen says samsung recovery solution 4 please wait

Leave it on the "please wait" screen for 45 minutes, if it doesn't change at all then try tapping F8 while it's booting up or F4 and see if anything different comes up to do with recovery or restoration.

Failing that if they can't get any life out of it how old is it? under 28 days and you should (minus there being any visual physical damage) be able to return it without any problems.

been about that now, she just said

actual message

a disk read error occurred

press c a d to continue

she hit f2 this time and has full bios settings

of main with the machine id

also advanced, security, boot and exit

is there anything there that would help

its over 28 days but bought for christmas, was switched on in november and printer etc added last week before he got it

Unfortunately it sounds like enough force has been put on the hard disk to cause corruption of some data or the drive itself has failed.

If they press F2 to get into the BIOS does the hard drive appear in the list on screen?

When in the BIOS try and get to the load fail safe defaults and reboot.

hi passed your messages on, they can get to the bios but then goes into the samsung recovery again then nothing.

guess all thats left is a trip to the shop in the mornung and fingers crossed all will be well

Outside of 28 days they will most likely be sent away to ring the manufacturer as the warranty is with them not the store.

I could go on but it may be a hassle to get it fixed and if they haven't created any external recovery media it might cost them something to try and fix it.
