Alternator problem??

Hi guys so it sounds like something as failed in my alternator or somewhere around that area. Any common things to go around that area?

The belt has been making a noise since I got it but now there is a high pitched noise, sound like when pads are stuck on disc's.

Battery light comes on with low power when the car is sat on tick over.
Any advice?

A bit stupid, but surely then it's the alternator?

Get a long screwdriver and place on the body of the alternator and against your ear to make sure it really is.

Problem with noises are, they can travel up other things if the excite natural frequencies and make it sound like it is something else.

Also while there, check the battery is showing the correct voltage when off (after being left all night) it should be circa 12.6v, then when on should be circa 14v, if a cell or 2 are dead in the battery, it could be the alternator working harder.

It's the bearings in the aux tensioner. It's had a new belt but The tensioner is rusted bad.

The car is clean pal but just keeps giving me problems.

Sorted. Some fool had put a new aux belt on with what looked like original tensioner and bearing had failed. All good now
