Boosted 7UP track toy - New Toy Revealed

Another update;
---------

So this weekend I fitted my flywheel and paddle clutch and mounted the gearbox to the engine, gave the engine some new oil and filters, put heat reflective tape on my firewall to protect it from the extra turbo temps, dropped my hub/wishbone/suspension assembly as one both sides to remove my driveshafts, put some new brake lines on, test fitted the engine and gave the engine a look over so I knew where to route the wires and pipes. Custom fabricated some parts to make it work and re routed my original Clio vacuum pipes to suit the engine. Now the car had its engine and wiring all together and routed pipes, poweflexed all my mounts, installed my exhaust link pipe, waiting on a reducer now so link my Meg exhaust to the clios.

First thing on my list was fixing my gear gaiter as it was the wrong way for the stitching, much better

Mated my gearbox to the Meg engine, then this engine had a service, moved it out the way and got my car in.

Got the car into the garage and removing my exhaust and driveshafts, this way for me was just easier for access all round.

Test fitting the engine to see what pipes need trimming and routing, also locked the wiring up to make sure it was all okay. Then I removed the engine and chopped accordingly (my turbo intake pipe, bulk head rad hoses, expansion tank)

I couldn't source a T piece for my turbo coolant pump, so I made one! Does the job

I then refitted my engine and clipped all my clutch and coolant hoses together, re routed my wiring, installed my filter and expansion tank and more hoses for the rad, all mounts were torqued up and the engine sat with no engine crane!

Next up was fitting the link pipe

Removed my "cat" section of the exhaust so the link pipe would fit down

So everything's ready for driveshafts and suspension to be installed next weekend and also should have my ecu back this week so hopefully be able to start it up! Make sure everything runs before installed the rad and intercooler.

Thanks for reading

good luck buddy..these threads always make me wanna do the conversion...such a great stuff..fingers crossed mate

Update! And a good one..... We have life!!!

So attention now went back to by engine bay, I mocked my rad and intercooler up to make sure it all fits and if I needed to make brackets etc. Bled my brakes and clutch, wheels on and moved it outside! Was time to start it for a couple seconds to make sure everything worked. Pleasantly surprised with a "card not detected" "please insert card" at this point I was a little confused so I grabbed my other card for my Clio and smiled! "Push brake to start"
Took a while to prime fuel to the engine but it started up first time! Here's a clip, not the official start up but made sure accelerated clutch etc worked. Also bonus no warning lights

Mocking up the intercooler pipe work to see if it needed modifying

Mocked up where everything sat!

We have a running engine with no warning lights and electrics all working!

So with the excitement of that over and the biggest smile from us we pushed it back in and pulled all the mocked up rad and intercooler off to make it perminant.
Required abit of modifying as the rad had to be moved a couple inches over due to my hardpipe kit. So I chopped my old bracket off and reused it then made another bracket for the other side so it sat flat and straight

Next up again was mocking the intercooler making sure it was fine, then marked it up with a blob of red paint so I knew where to drill.
Tightened all my boost clamps and here it sits

Those asking, yes it fits behind the bumper almost perfectly! Just a couple bits need trimming on one side of bumper

FC6A9CD7-8C0D-4BE5-ACE8-AD4B27FF6169_zps51irfymr.jpg

So next up is still waiting on my exhaust! Will be ready next week so that's the last piece now! All bits are done, just top my coolant up and double check my gearbox level.

Absolutely over the moon that it's gone to plan and this was all done with myself and my dads hands. Only thing we didn't touch was the ecu to swap the immobiliser chips which EFI did for me

Thanks again for reading!
Should be on the road in no time

impressive mate..hope you are up and running next week..well done and thanks for sharing all this..

Small update
---------

So my exhaust has been completed and will be here latest Wednesday! My cars booked in for an MOT on the 23rd, booked my car in on my birthday to be mapped, 3 days after I've got a track day at snetterton and then the day after is rs day at Bedford which I may do!

Few subtle changes to the car

Secured my bumper on and lights, connected it all up. Dropped the car back down to see how the car sat, I've left my current coilover set up as I want to do a few miles on it let it bed back in and then I can start playing around with the camber and ride height etc to clear bumper clips and I've also changed my Renault badges from yellow to red, removed my protective Matt film from my bumper and give myself a glossy sunstrip

Next up was to take it outside! Drove it out of the garage, I can see my left leg having more muscle than it used to. Paddle clutch set up doesn't half throw the peddle back.
So after 10 maybe more months, the car had a nice warm bath, followed by flaying and wax, not too worried about polish as I've a couple dents that will need seeing to.

Next update il hopefully have the exhaust on and the car MOT'd, insured and tax'd and doing some mileage on it, making sure it's all working correctly.

I've not forgotten about my wiring loom diagrams either however each set up can viary slightly so I do advise having a multimeter to measure continuity on the wires to double check before swapping looms and chopping things. Also I'm running Clio box, didn't really make too much difference as I just didn't chop the wires off the clios plug.

Anyway il be more in depth with pictures once I can see my car working
