    Hiya fellas.

Since the massive heat wave has been bestowed upon us all it has come to my attention that my aircon isn't particularly cold. It's not warm, but it's only managing to take the edge off the heat. Compared to my girlfriends Toyota Aygo, it's really poor.

I took it into Renault today and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. It was new in December 2012. Any ideas of where to go next?

yeh back to the dealers and tell them to fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is a massive test procedure for the air-con system on the clio - tell them to sort it - simple - it not just a case of checking the gas pressures

find out what they actually did...

This weather is highlighting all the A/C 'specialists' isn't it!

If Renault can't diagnose there own product then what is going on? As foxspeed has said, take it back. It's a new car, it should work!

Okay, now I've measured the temperature on Aygo and the Clio and they are both reading 11ish degrees so I don't think the temperature is the problem. I'm pretty sure that's all Renault tested. However, my girlfriend and I came to the layman conclusion that even though it was cold enough at the vents, it didn't feel like it was pushing it around the cabin enough. Any ideas what this could be? I'll ring Renault to find out exactly what they did. Thanks guys.

might be worth checking the cabin/pollen filter

I have found the same thing with mine. Travelled in my Aygo with A/C on about 2 and was nicely chilled lol then later got in the clio but even with it wacked up on 4 it wasnt really doing much...

Mines out of manufacturers warranty and I'm encountering the same problem.

The previous owner had the air con re-gassed at the start of the year but it doesn't seem to have done anything.

Will be good to hear what renault say

like foxsppeed has said check pollen filter has more than often can be missed when serviced, another thing with aircon is the ecu locks the pump out when gas perssure has got too low and requires renault clip to reset the system.

The Aygo's cabin is a much smaller place than the Clio cabins surely, so comparing how well aircon circulates doesnt really count does it considering the much smaller volume of "hot air" inside the Aygo?

Mine did this, and I changed the thermostat over and it fixed it. Does your engine temperature run at a normal rate and not low?

thermostat or engine temp doesnt effect the aircon

not sure tbh... takes a while to warm up (dial pointing to middle of engine temp curve) how can I tell/ compare?

It effected mine because my heaters only blew out warm air.

Just spoke to Renault Worcester and they have said that they have done all the checks that they should have done and everything is running fine. They also said check the pollen filter but it's only 7 months old and has only covered 3,300 miles (although I guess miles don't make too much of a difference?)

Yup, the air con on 2 with the Aygo (out of 4) is just nice. It's not me being paranoid then!

Well, having spoken to them, the lady spoke to the managing director who also happens to have a Clio 200 and he said "the air con isn't that good in mine either", which the receptionist apologised. Basically saying "yea, the aircon in this car is crap. Sorry about that".

Can't say as I'm sure they checked this, will double check later. I've already contacted Renault UK, and I will be taking this to an independent Air con specialist.

Indeed it is smaller, but not by so much so that the Aygo can cool you down on half the fan speed settings than the Clio's at full whack?

Also, my parents Merc C CLass has been tested as a comparison last night, a cabin much, much bigger than the Clio's, and that cooled down quickly and cooler than the Clio's air con could ever hope to reach.

The engine temperature sits he needle a little below half way on the guage. Is this normal?

what was up with ya thermostat? engine too cold? aircon runs of a pump of the cambelt/auxilary belt, so cant see what effect the engine coolant system would have on the aircon

air con system is independent to the heating system with regards to the workings...

heating uses coolant to provide hot air

air con uses pressurised gas to provide chilled air via a separate network of pipes and matrix

shared items are the blower and facia vents for control (in simple terms)

when the air con is on the engine cooling fan is on at low speed to provide cooling air through the front mounted condenser so in some circumstances
can cause a bit of extra engine cooling when on...

the needle with my old clio used to sit just below half way with the climate off, and drop to about just over the first notch, as aircon brings the rad fan on, so i say its normal then

There's another forum on here about a potentially damaged condenser see if that sheds any light on the situation

Jus looking back to an early post and I really dislike renaults mentality

I know this is a bit of the subject but I had an issue with my key card where I bought a brand new 2nd key and when programming they damaged my first key

Renaults answer was 'it happens to 70% of keys you'll need to buy a new one. At the end of the day the best thing to do is keep hassling them.

I have now spoken to RUK and they are investigating what has been done, and will be contacting me today. I'll let you know how I get on.
