197, white on white

So after a few years away from a 197, I found the urge to purchase another.

Here is my last one,

425ed48e7238a32e12c2dabb5c9a1d5b.jpg

& I’ve had a few cars since then!

And now onto the new car,

85k on the clock with stacks & stacks of paperwork, clutch & cambelt replaced this year, thermostat & front shocks & springs replaced also along with brakes all round.

The plans are probably just to keep
It as standard as possible & keep it looking as good as I can. I will probably refurbish the brake callipers white, as I’m loving the white on white theme.

But other than that I think it will just be replacing anything that looks worn and keeping it as oem as possible (for now)

Starting with a full detail

Any comments appreciated!

Looks great mate! Good luck keeping the wheels clean.

How are you finding it compared to the mini?

THAT is fresh. Looks stunning ! And a nightmare to keep that way........

You've owned some nice metal. The draw back must have been strong.

Enjoy your new car. Lovely example - looks in great nick.......

Thanks mate, usually my cars get 2-3 washes a week so shouldn’t be too bad, I’ve sealed all the wheels with a ceramic coating so should keep the brake dust away!

Much prefer it as an overall package to the mini. It doesn’t have the Same punch of power but is certainly much more rewarding to drive.

Thanks mate, yes I love how clean & fresh the white looks, hopefully I can maintain it.

And yeah I have had a few nice cars, all of the above has been in a space of less than 2 years also!

I’m back working at Renault again now also, so just makes sense for me to have another one. Cheap parts [emoji1362]

Be still my beating heart! White car on white wheels makes me weak at the knees every time.

That looks absolutely fantastic!

Just needs the skirts and a set of Recaro seats.

Superb car mate. Welcome back to the club.

LOOK at it!!!

Absolutely perfect look if you ask me. And my god that one sits so well! Nice one Sean, that illustrates my point perfectly!

yeah I absolutely love it, but don't think I could go that low and live with it as a daily.
8J cup racer Speedlines with 25mm spacers, lowered on Spax coilovers with custom springs and the adjusters removed. Funnily enough he went through a few front splitters and arch liners LOL

Ha, the way I drive and the roads I drive on, there's no way I could live with that ride height but seriously, LOOK AT IT!!!

*swoon

Love that I must admit. Just loving all the white at the moment looks so fresh.

Recaro’s and skirts will certainly be on the list for to-do’s.

So took the Clio down to Poole today, done 250 miles and bad brilliant fun driving it.

However it was the longest I drove it for so did notice a few niggles I will need to get sorted.

1. Checked the front tyres & noticed both fronts were bold as a badgers *** on the very inner edge, tyre pressures all ok so alignment must be out. Although steering wheel is pretty centre so may have been just as there old tyres

Front tyres are conti contisport contact 2’s.
Rear tyres are Falkens & personally I think there awful. So much tyre noise from them (however there about 6mm)

So plan is to put a pair of Michelin Pilot sport 4’s on the front & leave the Falkens on the rear for now until worn out.

2. The drone from the exhaust is annoying on a long run, it’s a standard system with resonator out. But I don’t often do long runs so may leave it as it is.

3. The bloudy gearbox is doing my head in. As an ex Renault tech I’m fully aware of the syncro issues, but bezarely it’s not between 3rd & 4th. The problem I’m having is with 2nd gear, when pulling away in 1st and changing to second it will crunch unless I’m slow & smooth with the gear change, also coming down from 3rd to 2nd is a problem unless shifting very slowly.

I’ve got no record of it ever having a box oil change, although it had a new clutch about 5k ago so assumed it was replaced then.

I’m going to change the box oil for some Fuchs stuff & fit a power flexed torque arm mount and see if that makes any difference! Hopefully it does

So,

Did some work on the Clio today, changed the gearbox oil for some fresh NFJ & also bled the clutch & brakes,

Drove up the road and thought lovely, all gears select a treat & my second gear problem was gone.

But no, I spoke to soon. Drive around for 45 minuites or so with no problems at all, and then all of a sudden, crunch into second gear.

Much swearing later, then all of a sudden was fine again...

Very very strange, must be my Driving style or I just need to be a bit more gentle with it.....

So, replaced the torque arm mount today that was heavily worn. I went with power flex black series as I wanted it to blend in to the engine bay and not stand out when the bonnet was open.

Will report back once driven!
