The name on recipet looks to be just a independent garage in Swansea. Not a renault specialist or alike. Just the average garage it seems. It was booked for a new engine but ad I have another 197 that if only bought as a cheap fun car,I'm in no man's land with this blown black one.

Yes the pistons are the same also. Piston 1 obviously collateral but every other piston was damaged on the front and rear edge. The heads back on now so that I could hang the engine but i should have taken more pictures of the cylinders and pistons.

First thing seen was a rocker sat loose as I opened the oil cap and the cam scored. Then I removed the head and found that damage. The rear pulley spun out free but the dephaser pulley is solid... unsure if this is due to the damage or if it's a factor... Car seemed fine until this happened...

Hi guys. Some of you may have seen a previous thread about the blown engine in a 197 I purchased. I picked up the paperwork today for the vehicle... the timing belt and water pump were replaced on 3.7.18.... I purchased the car from a dealer in the 20.8.18.... I assume the dealer he it sat...

My drivers side was full of water. Passanger side was clear. Cleared the channel with solder.

Coat of zymol on today too.

Where would that place be mate?? Iv booked it in with beanie now as with the belt,clutch,slave and all fluids inc plus piece of mind with the installation I seem this as a good route. It's coming in just under 1900 total. So still cheap car.
