Annoying Vibrations

Hi there,

I just got my hands on a clio 200 (2009) but I believe it has uprated bushes. In fact, the rubber bushing on the upper torque arm is solid (botch job) whilst polyurethane bushes are used elsewhere. The vibration and resonance I am getting inside the car are horrendous and the setup is way too hardcore for me haha. I'm wondering which engine mount should I tackle first which would reduce the majority of the vibration?

I believe there are 3 engine mounts (upper and lower engine mount, upper torque arm) and 1 gearbox mount? Correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers,
Bryan

Morning and you’re correct there are 3 engine mounts and the one which will cause you the most annoyance is the upper engine mount.. the lower is fine as you may get some vibration through the pedals till it’s settled. The torque you’ll see some increased cabin vibrations but nothing as bad.

I’d just take out the upper and leave the rest

Thanks Beany.

The upper engine mount has a purple bushing, so I assume it is a powerflex road bushing? If I revert to OEM, there is no way but to buy a whole new mount?

(pictures: you can see the torque arm bushing is filled with solid rubber! and below that is the purple bushing for the upper engine mount)

looks standard to me unless there are some solid mounts that i cant see..also powerflex sell black series which are designed purely for racing and can be very firm..
maybe they are gone and need replacing??

The torque one looks like it needs replacing it looks melted almost!

You can see the purple of a power flex bush for the upper but they look like black series which a hardcore!

I’d get them all replaced judging by the state of them

The one that looks melted is filled with pu sealant I’m guessing due to it probably falling to bits previously I’d bet or someone figured all polyurethane was the same

Probably a cheap fix! You reckon powerflex yellow inserts (road) will solve it or I should go OEM? Although OEM I can't just get the rubber but the whole thing?

Yeah the yellow/purple ones are fine for the road..the vibrations will settle.down after a few hundred miles...

Hello and welcome i uprated my upper torque arm bush a few months ago it was very vibratey (if that's a word, lol) at first but it does settle down. I too would say don't go black as it would be too vibratey !!! IMG_0697.JPG

Stupid question time. As some may know my R27 is a garage queen with very little mileage a year and only 16k on the clock. I doubt very much that any of my engine/gearbox bushes would need replaced but nearly all you guys upgrade so what would be the benefits for me too change the gearbox, lower engine and torque arm bushes?

I'm sure you would see a difference yeah..the rubber age no.matter whether the car is driven occasionally or daily..plus you will.protect your flexis from cracking...
Hope that helps..

Peace of mind as well, Colin. It's a relatively inexpensive upgrade, but provides a lot of protection for costly-to-replace-parts like the manifold/flexis. With you having such low mileage, your car is a lot less likely to suffer that sort of thing, but Pav makes a good point with regards to rubber ageing regardless.

What I know as the main engine mount (under the torque arm) I have read is the one that is most likely to cause issues with vibrations. I have Powerflex road bushes in the torque arm, gearbox mount and dogbone.

Benefits are that is feels more solid. When the car accelerates it immediately goes, no soft pull away. It transponds to the same feeling when you bury your foot and the whole car feels more direct.

Of course Renault design it with some give for the road and this will reduce this but road Powerflex series reduce in vibrations after awhile.
