Labour for suspension springs change

Winner - POTM November 2018
Afternoon all,

I've just been quoted 5hrs to change the springs on my Clio 197/200. 1hr for the rears and 3.8hrs for the front. Does this seem excessive or about right?

I was expecting no more than 2 hours total...

Not at my computer right now or I would check Dialogys but that sounds about right if it’s a Renault dealer.

Way too long..I was quoted £80 and no more than 3 hours

That's what I thought but have all seen that they can be a right bas***d to do. Looks like i'll have to keep phoning around

You got a quote from someone who hadn’t done one before then... no one in there right mind would quote 3hrs for front and rear springs knowing what the front ends are like...

We were a French car specialist and Labour was 42 quid inc vat, so even at that 126 quid for 3 hrs, 80 is mates rates no matter where you are

that was 3 years ago and yeah not a friend mechanic either..maybe i looked too skint so they felt sorry for me :tearsofjoy:

I've had a quote for £180 which I have agreed to. Told him he can keep the car for a week so he can do it as he pleases which sweetened the deal.

I just had all 4 shocks and springs changed on my 200 and I was quoted 4 hours, but it took them a lot longer! I was charged for 5 hours in the end which I was happy with as it had genuinely taken longer than that. It was a right pain job for them and everything was seized up on the fronts.

glad they are on..sometimes they are a pain to do..my were fine for some reason..enjoy

Mine are now on. Chap said it was a proper ball ache but did it for the agreed price of £180.00 pictures to follow once it's clean and settled

Yeah this is the reason I opted to replace with Coilovers rather than springs so I only have to outlay this labour charge once!
