NOT the Royal Wedding!

With my wife wanting to watch the wedding today & also maybe the Scottish cup final (she's a life long Motherwell fan), it was a good day for me to have a drive. I headed to Ullapool & picked up the NC500 to Durness, then headed along the top of mainland UK to Thurso, Castletown & Wick before heading south down the A9 back home to Inverness. Lovely weather for it. Tagged along behind an MX5 for 40 odd miles as he was "making progress" at a speed I was comfortable with and using the same overtaking opportunities as me. Got a cheery wave as I turned north to Durness & he carried straight on to Lochinver. As usual the roads up north were pretty quiet. There was a bunch of Dutch & Germans doing a banger rally. Audi coupe, S class Merc, E class, Beetle & Volvo Amazon estate amongst them. Also met some Lotuses & a group of MX5s. Ended up doing around 300 miles door to door. Great fun!

sounds like you had a blast buddy..glad you have spent your Saturday this way..gotta be done..perfect pics :thumb:

car behaved??

Sounds perfect to me John.

Can I ask how you tag along with another driver and enjoy some spirited driving? If that where me the person would either think I was a lunatic and let me past or think I was racing and pull a few dodgy moves.

I can remember when I had my 265 having a bit of a fun with an M4, nothing crazy, and pulling up beside him at the lights to just have a chat (and also let him know he had a brake light out) and he just gave me the finger and launched off!

Anyhow, sounds like a great day and I would LOVE to do the NC500 someday in the Clio!

Basically I just kept pace whilst making it clear I wasn't interested in coming past. He'd overtake & I'd do the same if there was room for two cars to pass, if not I hung back & then caught up and tucked in behind him when I got past whatever it was. We were pretty evenly matched on those roads with the lighter Mazda (it was a Mk 2) making up for it's power defecit.

I guess your BMW driver was embarrassed at being held on to by a Renault!

What a way to spend a Saturday, very nice John! Perfect roads and weather by the sounds of it, and Mrs John keeping occupied for most of the day - win/win :thumb:

John,

What a glorious day out that looks. My very favourite way to spend time. Even more so than being on a track. Open roads, great scenery, a few bits of fun with other people out for a drive... all good.

And I still can't get over how racy your car looks now. Every time I see it my first thought is BLOODY HELL it looks amazing.

Great post mate.
