Shuv's Racing Blue 200...................

I mainly come on here to see other members cars/projects, look for as much info as I can on issues that I may occur and try and help anyone if I can. I don't see the clicky side but at the same time I'm probably not on here enough. I still do think though this is a well run and informative forum. Fingers crossed @sevenfourate that the decent 197/200's do go up in value.

Really pleased to see you back Shuv, was a bit disappointed my ITG kit from Pure Motorsport didn't come with another orange sticker, would have sent it your way again :tongueout:
Some interesting observations and in all honesty I think a lot of people have picked up on these points over time. I genuinely think there's been a lack of interest/activity on here over Christmas and New Year: my personal opinion is that life outside of the forum has got in the way. Whether it is cyclical or just coincidental, you can't force the issue I suppose. I think it's OK to have a collective hiatus, and in some ways I think the 'behaviour breeds behaviour' adage is (or will be) the saving grace for the forum once the weather gets better and we start modifying, detailing and taking little drives/photos, plus the odd meet here and there.
I personally was extremely busy with work and even apologised to the other Mods/Admins that things were plain manic in December and into January.
We may, in some way, have created a different dynamic to the forum as a result of doing the Bedford track day in November. What we ended up having was a cracking day and display of forum unity. We were clearly the best and most represented forum there and everyone was treated as an equal, we all just got on very well. It's what has driven most people to do the Spa track day next month. For me, I haven't really thought much about track action, more the camaraderie and pride in the people we have on this forum. In some respects, if we haven't had done Bedford, the place may have felt very much the same and everyone would be a happy camper, but we realised that the best way to do a meet was at a track - look how much of a nightmare the last meet was in April! We would love to see more members at track days, it's a fantastic feeling to all get on so well.
The WhatsApp group was created so that people didn't have to suffer our constant drivel about Spa, and it's just a load of banter but some quite interesting things going on in there, such as engineering masterpieces and updates that end up on here. We all have a bit of a laugh, but it's second place to the forum, we are all grateful for what it is. We have so many different kinds of people going to Spa, it's hard to say we're cliqukekykyky (sic), but rather than based on personalities, we're drawn by our love for all things Renault, so I think others would be hard pressed to find they don't belong, there's nothing underhand going on. If we knew each other outside of this forum, we probably wouldn't get on, so this is why I make the point about a common interest.
Personally, I like to think of myself as considerate and diplomatic - I need these qualities for my day job and I like to think that is reflected on here. I try to make everyone feel welcome and keep the forum as close to how it was as possible.
Anyway, I'm waffling but as Trump said 'lets make the forum great again!'
Much love

YOU’RE BACK! Hooray!:grinning:

I agree with your comments about i

The WhatsApp group (.....) has come from the Christmas & Bedford meets.
Which is maybe why I felt like an outsider not having made it to these.

Good to hear from you Shuv, hope all is well with yourself!

Starting with your Clio! I’ve seen your car a handful of times in the flesh, it comes across as a work of art! Visually - looks fantastic, sound - awesome, and the interior/engine bay having them personal touches which compliment the car so well (albeit I’ve not seen it with the recaro’s in!) if it was myself thinking of selling, I’d find it tough knowing the hours that have been put in to get the car where it is now! I do see the Mk3 Clio being a ‘future classic’, some may disagree, but I would say keeping it would be a solid investment in the long run!

You’re right to put forward your feelings, rather than pretend like everything is ok! It’s difficult for myself, as I’ve only been a member a couple of years therefore it’s hard to compare it from how the forum has been in the past. From my perspective the forum was welcoming when I joined, and connected me with people who have a shared interest. The meets I’ve attended have been great, and have formed friendships as a result! I’m not the most active member, but I enjoy reading the various project threads, of which I myself fall guilty of not interacting enough amongst other threads. I’ve certainly been mulling over starting project thread for too long, so I’m hoping I can increase my involvement as a member!

I’d say keeping the Clio in the garage is probably the safest place it can be, especially this week!

Hello Suv!

I have to admit i can lift my hand here , for the thing you said that many people just post in their own project topics, but don´t comment for other threads.
I read quite a lot this forum and all project topics. I enjoy detailed images and stories from drives and trackdays.

We have kind of same thing going in our local detailing forum, it is really quiet in wintertime.
Also facebook groups are popular this year. We have for example car detailing facebook community which has something like 25.000 new members within 6 months.

Clio 197 / 200 value in future:
I have one clio in storage and i dont know when i will take it for drive next time.
I have too much everything going in my life.
Really busy with work and other stuff. I think the car would not cost much to keep in storage, and i have other cars which i can drive (like you have daily driven cars).. so my opinion is that maybe you should keep clio in storage and take your time, think that later.
All sell decisions which i have done with rush have been bad.
And i regret couple of cars which i sold.
You can think if car value is something like 10.000£ - 15.000£ for example, that is not so much money in this life. I have sold really nice BMW´s for under 7000£ which today would be near 20.000£ value... :worried: And you cannot find cars in that condition.

If you sell your car, you should think all work which you have done for that great example, and how mint it is.
If you ever want to buy another clio 200 , would you get so good car? Wit all that your modifications and small details.
That is the reason why i try to keep Clio197 so long i live and i have money that i dont have sell kidneys for money before i sell clio. I dont know future value.. we just see within 10 years what is direction.
I dont believe that value will be so high like Clio V6 or Renault 5 Turbo, those cars are so rare.
There was no many units when those were new. 197 and 200 was mass produced compared for 5 turbos.
Time will tell.

Nice to have you back.

Antti, -27celsius outside.

Hiya Shuv, glad to hear you're doing ok, and the car is of course looking very tidy (as per).

Just a brief post, starting work shortly, college is closed because of the snow so I'm on bloody late shift friday!

Just an observation here. When I suggested my car being extremely low mileage and wishing to keep it that way I was met with a lot of negative comments eg will not appreciate in value, just a 197 with decals, these cars are meant to be driven etc. What's changed now?

From my point of view, nothing. But that's just me. If it was a v6 or a trophy model then perhaps I'd think differently, but I don't, in all honesty. If anything, keeping yours under wraps makes more sense with it being an F1.

Col: you strike me as a leader, not a follower. Screw the pack. Lead from the front and do what you want ! Seriously; no idea. Day of the week, those choosing to comment, time of the month, hormone cycle ? :smirk:

Absolutely valid.

Mines not a LTD Edition run like an F1. Isn't ultra low miles. Isn't LY so many seemingly desire. And is far from standard. I have no idea if these (this) car will go up in value / desirability any more than the next man. Was genuinely putting it out there - and am prepared to be shot down in flames if need be. Lets say im not relying on it as my financial godsend

No worries bud. The "Hiya" is enough. Hope you and Emma are well.

Hope you got back from work 'ok' ? Wife went out to work tonight - and we had a further 6" of snow in the few hours she was working. She said driving back was the worst drive she's ever had. Mind you - i always think that in her Punto whatever the weather

Shuv I like yourself are not a fool. I'm realistic with a tad of optimism. I picked and paid what I did for my car to have one of the best available at the time. If your car had been for sale when I was looking I would again paid over the odds for this car. It's guys like ourselves who take great pride in our cars that can only push these car values up. My opinion to you is hold on to the car as long as it's financially possible or to someone offers you the correct amount.

Like you i'm sure: It owes me nothing and i don't need; and am in no rush to sell just because. I'm very happy to have sitting around and i like owning it. If someone wants a fantastic and sorted example and will pay as appropriate - i may have my arm twisted. Otherwise; a cosseted life it will lead in the immediate future....

***And you taking stick on here; i'm taking plenty of s**t off my mates. Many have asked when its coming out. "Maybe never" is mostly my somewhat truthful reply. When they get up off the floor laughing most have tears in their eyes from mocking me; and the little Clio....

Great to see you back on here mate. I've been busy this week so only just catching up on the forum before going to the gym later to do circuits. Hopefully you'll just continue to keep the car. My plan is to keep it forever now unless I really need to sell it to fund something else. Spent a few mins reading your post regarding the forum. I know what you mean regarding the place slowing down and people not really commenting, maybe it's due to the time of the year, the weather and people not really being on to talk about their own car and not engaging in other people's threads. Hope to see this place continue, I do like getting on here for a catch up with people when I get a minute. Look forward to what's to come this year.

@sevenfourate i bought my AG in the hope that it *may* go up in value and become sought after in the future. With it being one of only two to have the factory black roof, it's also one of the 55 AG's.

I think realistically it'll be years before/if they do start to go up in value despite being one of the last n/a hot hatches, and even then it won't have the same cult following of the v6's or the trophy. Even the Williams doesn't command the values that the v6 or trophy do.

With this in mind, I have considered shifting my AG on, but I'm still yet to reach a decision.

5 months?? I didn't realise it'd been that long since we were bombarded with photos of a spotless car . Good to see you back and I tend to agree that the mood has changed a bit :disappointed:. You never know hopefully this will kick start a change....

Shuv,

Good to see you back mate. As you can tell with me being so late to comment, I've not been around either. A combo of massive workload, lots of time away, a couple of childish outbursts and nothing happening with the Clio right now while Mrs M decides what the hell she wants to do.

Regarding cliques, you're always going to get that in a place like this. Some people gel well together and naturally they're going to focus on each other rather than everything else. Personally, while I can see there are some sub-groups forming, it's no biggie. The banter is still the same. The good people are still the same. The awesome cars are still the same.

And your awesome car is still the same too! Please don't sell it mate. Unless you're going for a massive upgrade (which would then obviously be totally understandable) she's just far FAR too special to part with. Maybe you just need a daily? Not sure if you have one?

You know what I went through in the run up to the Lotus, if you ever need a reciprocal voice of sense and reason, give me a shout!

Actually don't, I'm far from a voice of sense or reason! (Joking).

You've been missed mate. This place wasn't the same without your sagely advice, amusing banter, energetic and infectious enthusiasm and superb help to folks who needed it.

Hope you and the fam are well and that the holiday was fantastic.

Big manly hugs.

HIYA MES !!! Really good to hear from you stranger. Hope you and yours are well too buddy ? We're good this end thanks for asking. Aslong as this blooming white stuff doesn't make a showing again this weekend :-(

(I'll try to keep this as brief as - because i'm just so excited by it right now): Let's get to my passion first. Holidays ! Well....."Travel" (?). I'm getting hooked mated. And New York was ridiculously good. Better than we even imagined. And being there at Xmas just made it a bit more special. We loved it - but returned and immediately booked Vegas - being of the nature to never visit anywhere twice / World is too big a place and all that. Aswell as already having a cheapish week away in Cyprus Early May, and Mexico already booked.

Couple of weeks went by and after i'd started to research possible trips ref Vegas, what we'd do there, some points of interest, sights to see etc etc i was struggling to get the wife to talk about it much. "Whats up" i said "Nothing" she replied....."We need to get Cyprus done first - then we'll concentrate on Vegas". "I can see through you" i came back with.

Then she hit me with the bombshell: "I just can't get New York out of my mind"..... "Neither can i to be honest" i countered with without hesitating. It had really gotten under our skin badly. Unlike anywhere else i've / we've ever been.

So we immediately looked at going back again, trying to find suitable dates, wondering how we'd afford it with everything else going on here and wondering what my work would have to say about all my time off. Then the 3 kids announced they wanted to come too. Cripes !!!! And all being teeneagers /'mum' figured and chucked into the mix it might be our last family hol together. So after explaining the potential costs there; in i think our first ever "Family meeting" and there would have to be cutbacks if we did the trip......culmination is we're all back to NYC at the end of August in the school hols and me and mum are desperately working every hour possible to make sure we really do it properly and somehow fund this lifestyle we can't really afford right now. My wifes actually working 3 jobs ! It's not quite as bad as i make out....but suffice to say this years holiday commitments could have bought some serious metal if you were that way inclined.

If we can scramble enough together we may go back to NYC at Xmas too. 5 hols a years ? Pahhhh. I laugh in the face of incoming bankruptcy  We've really, really, really got the NYC bug bad i tell you. It just consuming us right now. Next year i think we're going to Airbnb it and go for a reasonably prolonged period.

Anyway: I've said my part regarding cliques and 'selfish' (Harsh ?) people only coming on for themselves and purely being 'takers'. Time will tell and no point me saying the same drivel twice...

I did see Mrs M had a new position and had embarked on a serious new pay-scale. Good for her ! Is she considering chopping the Clio in then ? Can't persuade her to keep and buy another car aswell-as Mes ? Yes i do have a daily mate. If the Clio stays it will only ever be a weekend toy in summer now whatever....

Thanks for the kind words. Would have expected no less from yourself. Class is permanent

Hope i've not bored you to tears with non-car chat.

See you around bud. We MUST meet-up this year. BOTH in Clio's too :sunglasses:

Jeez you guys write some big replies! Just read your last few posts and what I say to you is if you are thinking of selling it’s for a reason! It’s a super clean car and you have it pristine but then again look what you did with the Corsa!

Your like me, you’ll always source a great car and possibly improve its condition every time, I stuck with a supra for 14 years feeling I had a bond with it, never thought I’d let it go, near like I owed it to stay with me as I’d had it that long! Sold it about five years back, best thing I ever did, lifted a weight sort of thing  the r1 I’d owned for 13 years soon followed! Life’s too short!

I’ve had the Clio a year now, still love it, just had the belts and pump etc done, full mot and sitting pretty in my garage, but I’m still thinking about selling it! Tbh if there had been more of a scene in Northern Ireland and some meets it would have probably kept me I intrested but there is no intrest whatsoever.

Could be blowing it out in the near future same as yourself

Ace post mate! Although it's expected from you.

Regarding the cliques, as I said, that doesn't really bother me as long as the folks involved aren't being like "we're too cool to talk to you" which is definitely not the case from what I've seen. I do however very definitely share your view that there are a few (thankfully only a few) members on here who only post for themselves and make no effort to be reciprocal or get involved with the forum properly. That's selfish and not cool. I've identified the few that are and ignore them.

I also think there is a natural difference in how people use their cars that makes like-minded folk group together. Some have theirs only for track use. Some only for B-road fun. Some just like to clean them a look at them. Shared usage type is always going to help draw people together.

Holidays and travel, my god mate, you won't bore me to tears with that! Love travelling as I'm sure you're aware. Just back from an incredible holiday (maybe the best ever) in California. Spent most of it in two of their national parks looking at things like this:

Yosemite Valley View.jpg

Super pleased you enjoyed NYC so much that you're both so keen to go back. And I hope the kids fully appreciate the efforts you and Mrs Shuv are going to for them to have such an amazing trip!!!

By the way, it's only a short hop north to get to Boston from NY and I think that's a fantastic city too, but it doesn't quite have the bright lights of NYC. Also, if scenery is your thing, slightly further north is Vermont which is a wonderful place, one of my favourite states of the 12 that I have visited... NYC would be much better for the kids though no doubt. There's a vibe there huh? It's palpable throughout the whole city.

Ps. in my experience, accommodation in NYC is expensive no matter what. You'll save a bit with airbnb but not a huge amount.

Thanks for the kind words about Mrs M. She's done VERY well for herself. Super proud of her. She's keeping the Clio. I keep trying to persuade her to get an Elise but she has too much love for Tractor Boy to entertain anything else. As for keeping it and getting another car, I'd LOVE that  but there's no way I can seriously entertain it. We live in London and have three cars, in reality, we "need" none of them!

Glad you have a daily mate, that makes a BIG difference huh? I just really hope that you stick with the Clio. You've come too far and built such a beauty, it would be a shame to let it go. It's not the usual case of upgraditis is it? So many people who mod their cars get to a point where they've done all they can do and move on to something else to start the process again. I understand if that's part of it. Modding cars is definitely addictive! I was kind of at that stage with the BMW. The only things left to do are huge things that can't ever be reverted back to standard. But since I've stopped modding it, I've REALLY enjoyed just using the car as it is and getting the most out of it.

Whatever mate, your 197/200.net support / therapy group is here to help!

Regarding a meet up, fook yeah mate, as soon as the weather is good, let's go for a hoon and some banter. Well up for that.

"Class is permanent" ...likewise mate, likewise.
