L33th3tr33's Ultra red 197

I wouldn't say black is much easier to maintain. My Lotus has black wheels and they're a bit of a nightmare to be honest. Anthracite hides brake dust best in my experience.

Although our bronze Ultraleggera have been pretty good too, but that might be more to do with the coating of C5 they got prior to fitting.

But yeah, black isn't much better than silver in my experience!
Ah well that's not great to hear! Maybe bronze would be a good shout then. They'll be coated before fitting too, makes life much easier.

@///M Ooooft that's pretty. Guess I'll have to speak to my powdercoating guy and see what shades of bronze he has! Thanks for that, much appreciated.

No big or interesting updates, had the front bumper off more times than I'd like trying out different types of bulbs and ended up getting a set of xenon headlights. Got a rattle from the rear now though, not the boot lid as I've adjusted that. I'm thinking the rear seats may be the problem.... I've ordered a few little bits so I'll update soon.

Did you find taking the bumper off easy mate? Had scraped hands trying to change bulbs without removing mine, would probably been quicker taking it off with all the f@cking about I had.

Take it off mate! Been there done that on my 197 and I just used to take it off in the end!

Red & gold wow...yes do it, maybe even consider gold bullets and badges, i'm confident the badge police will have something to say about gold badges, but team black diamond will always show support to any non standard coloured badges.

Team Black Diamond.

It's an absolute pig the first time you do it only due to not knowing exactly where the screws are that hold the wing and bumper together but other than that it's super easy, don't even need to jack the car up, I have to drive onto a 40mm block of mdf as my cars a bit low to get under with a stubby screwdriver.

Stubby Phillips screwdriver
13mm socket
Trim tool or flat head screwdriver

Turn wheels to one side,
Remove arch liner plugs and pull arch out of the way
Screw at bottom of the arch on corner of the bumper
Three screws connecting wing and bumper
Repeat for other side
Five screws connecting undertray to subframe
Four bolts connecting slam panel
Pull bumper off carefully, pull each side from the wing and lift off slam panel
Disconnect fogs

Like I said it's a pig to do first time around but I can have it all off in 15 mins now that the screws have loosened up.

There is really good instructions how to remove front bumper, in how-to section.
Just follow instructions and it is easy to remove. Never had any problems when reading instructions from this great forum.
@l33th3tr33 how can you retrofit xenon headlights, is there automatic levelling working ? Do you have headlight washers?
Or i dont know if those are mandatory there? In my country if you have xenons you have to have automatic levelling depending car angle of the road + headlight washers. If not, instant mot failure.

Quite easy Chris? I've read the guide and it looks simple enough. Just don't want to scratch/snap anything.

Would highly advise putting car on axle stands and taking front wheels off, makes it much easier, but as above, it can be done without!

Would also highly advise getting some of the arch liner clips from ebay (they are cheap) as theyre very easy to break!

The headlights themselves are plug and play, but I have swapped the leveling motor for my manual one from my halogen lamps.
You do need the washers and auto leveling for MOT but I've never had a problem with it before.
