Seat belts locked?

So, I eventually bought some seat belts from a yellow pack'd Clio but they all seem to have been securely locked so I can't really pull the belt out.

I suspect that this is some sort of a mechanism which locks down the belt when it is removed from the vehicle (when the belt is retracted more than a specific point I guess) but I can't seem to be able to work around it?

Am I missing something?

Thanks

I belive if they are in anything other than an upright position, ie the way they're installed, then they'll lock. So in theory all you have to do is hold the inertia reel part upright and the belt should move freely.

Many thanks for your replies guys.

Can you open it up and take a look inside?

That's the thing. The plastic part that covers the locking mechanism won't budge and I don't want to try anything stupid until I ask around first.

Have you fitted them?

No I haven't yet simply because I wanted to clean them first prior to fitting, it'd be a much easier job however what Sean says makes absolute sense (even though I tried every single angle)! I'll try fitting one out of curiosity and give it a go.
