Pedal cleaning

What do people use to clean their pedals?
Mine are minging and seeing as I'm doing the interior this week I thought I'd ask.
Have some wire brushes and scourers but didn't want to tarnish the surface. Also don't want to leave them slippery:grinning:

Thanks in advance.

I used a soft metal brush (brass coloured bristles) and some cutting compound. There's probably something better but mine came up much better.
Cheers Simon. I've got both of those items so that's winning at the moment:grinning:

Clutch (£15)

The beauty being - the original holes should all line-up, and it should be a really quick drill out heads of old rivets - and re-rivet in place job. Unlike aftermarket pedals on which holes might clash, pedals might need clamping in place and re-drilling etc.....

Thanks mate. I'll try cleaning first then investigate these further if I'm not happy with how they come up

My only thought Ben was that most (all ?) Aluminium we order at work had some kind of surface coating on to make it harder wearing. Maybe if only that comes about through bright or dull polishing.

I've seen before where once through that layer - the material under not only looks dull...but oxidises quickly.

On the back of this thread I'm gonna have a go at mine at the weekend too.

Will report back. If not eBay is my back-up

I know @Big Ben showed his results in his progress thread. So i thought i'd put mine here for anyone else searching for the same in the future to hopefully find.

Thanks to Ben for the kick-up-the-ass i needed to do this - and the results are quick to achieve; and very noticeable !

1/ Take a scratched, scuffed, shiny on the contact points and generally 6 year old looking set of pedals:

2/ Prepare footwell for the oncoming mess. ***Tweenies duvet cover not essential. You can see state of pedals better in this pic:

3/ Take your cleaning medium. Ben used a soft wire suede type brush. I went down the various grades of scouring pad route:

4/ Get at it !!!!! I used typical green scouring pad as found in many homes first. The finish was great. But a little too grained / dull / motorsport looking for my liking - as per this picture. So i went at it with a couple of finer grades afterwards to get a slightly brighter look. And i always worked up and down (Vertically) - to keep the 'grain' going in one direction.

5/ Stand back and admire your handywork

Even with a rough looking set of pedals. From getting the rags and gear out to doing the job, cleaning up, locking the car and a quick hoover in the footwell between times was less than an hour.

And they should be a 5 minute job to refresh now during an interior clean.

What you waiting for :sunglasses:
