LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

I agree It won't be for everyone but even with progression on trackdays it's worth while. I wasn't implying about you Rich I was referring too toms post.

im no driving expert but I was ok on track days, held
My own before titution but it's a real eye opener
To how much more you can push yourself and how much more capalabe the car is. What saying is before investing serious amounts into a n/a engine trackdays a day with a instructor is well worth it that's all. Get more out that

A lot of people fall into the trap of, that's over taken me or I wasn't as quick as he was. I need more power and sadly that's not the case all the time. Just means they'll go x amount quicker down the straights.

I appreciate the comments. At pretty much all track days now I find out who is there giving tuition and always try to fit in a couple of slots with respected people. Brought the driving on no end, there isn't many cars that will go through corners faster. It's just the straights that it lacks. I catch up the majority of cars through the corners and under braking but in the future do need to find some more power on the straights. Still working on chassis modifications primarily though. In future I'll consider a half day or day with someone. See how that goes too.

Amen!

Even now people indicate for me to pass and they are actually still pulling away! Takes them a while to realise the car aint quick on the straights. The N/A tuning is a pure indulgence on the road to be frank, the noise and drama. For track it would take a Meg swap to give a tangible difference to that sort of thing. Or a silly silly N/A build but of course those sort of 280+ spec engines are life'd in only xxx's of KM's between rebuilds basically :astonished:

Yep, get it all time at TDs. It's very fustrating. Like say they indicate , move on over and then floor it. Then move back on line further down straight which then means have sit behind them few next series of corners.

One thing I regret not doing is putting a lower final drive in and lighter fly wheel. Maybe should done this than going down the clubsport route but they been night and day over the B14s so tough call. But yeh defo look into a diff /
Flywheel and lower final Drive tom before spending on expensive engine mods.

Do the flywheel while the clutch is off and box is being done for a diff (best upgrade tbh), but totally not worth it on it's own if you were paying labour.

Lower final drive, hmm depends on usage as it has compromised the road car nature of the car, mpg is dire and motorway use is painful - stick it at 70 and it's 4100rpm. Sounds like your going fast, but everything is passing you! 70 is a horrible speed on motorway because you get caught up with all the middle lane dickheads who are seemingly afraid of the outside lane and yo-yo at 65-75 constantly!!

Krash, it's an option if it's too much to rebuild mine. I've a limit in my mind as to what I deem an acceptable 'take it on the chin' amount. I'll man-maths away some labour by putting in bigger cams too. But tbh the K20 idea is presently behind a 370Z Nismo.

Is it apart yet? Depending on how bad it is you could break the engine for a bit of money towards the k swap

Nah not yet - should have done it today but I really couldn't be arsed to even try. As you've seen on Facebook I've been deliberating on cars a fair amount this week(!), but I am now decided on a 987.2 manual Cayman S. So for the amount of money involved in the grand scheme of things, sod it I'm just going to take the car for a replacement engine and gearbox to save me any ball-ache.
It'll be returned fully back to 100% standard inc badges on the back (which I have new ones), so other than the obvious need for an engine/box, I only need a few things: exhaust manifold, upper engine mount, gearbox mount & battery box I believe.

I'll of course be setting up the relevant for sale thread with everything in it once returned to stock. But until that point please no PM's as I suspect I'll get bombarded for quite a few things!

Been a hard decision and the Clio is such a fantastic car, but with the money I've poured into it I just can't continue. Definition of insanity isn't it "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"!?
If I hadn't just chopped the 206 in for the Golf estate, I'd keep the Clio as a daily - but comparing the Clio and the Golf on daily'ing attributes, it doesn't make sense for me to sell the Golf. Softer suspension and DSG just makes Starbucks so much easier!

And no, I WON'T be modding this one....... :confounded:

good luck with your future motor..hope she brings you many safe miles on the road/track..
if you need any parts give me a shout..

Cheers, dose of luck much needed this time! Do you have any of those parts? (engine, box, upper engine mount, gearbox mount, exhaust manifold, battery tray (inc lid)) If so condition, mileage and price if you'd be so kind please

I could see that coming Rich. You wouldn't be happy with an OEM engine and these engines are not to be tuned apart from the basics as we all know. Total respect for your dedication and commitment though, this thread should be a sticky for new members trying to NA modify that bloody engine!

As you said, you had to cross the line at some point and a manual RWD had to be the case.

I've got an OEM manifold by the way, it's not for sale here but let me know if you need it.

Indeed, I gave it a fair crack I guess! lol

I'll let you both know re: the parts. I'm waiting to hear back from someone on an engine and box, but chances are I'll take that one Pav and a manifold. I'll pm when I know cheers

None yet I'm afraid, hopefully soon as going to get someone to remove it for me and take the engine up as a whole to be checked.

I do however feel like I've ditched the Cayman idea, turns out you can't disable the PSM fully - if it's 'off' it is only off under throttle but remains active on braking, ffs! You can apparently wire a switch to the Yaw sensor, but in doing so disables any sport modes on the throttle mapping and PASM suspension if the car has those - so hardly a fix for tracking unless you have static suspension (perhaps Cayman R setup) and a custom ECU map for throttle maps etc!
So trail braking is off the menu with PSM 'off' and frankly the cars don't seem geared up for the sort of track work I want out of them, apparently the optional LSD's are utter garbo too and need a Quaife etc etc :\

M3 is of course the car that's always a potential, but again at 1600kg is it really something I want to track the shit out of :\ The weight issue just can't be ignored, and anything less than those 2 cars just ain't special enough to change from what the Clio is/was!
An Exige, meh unless it was Krypton Green then I just don't get animated by them like I did 5 years ago. And an S2000 - yes I'd swap a stock 200 for one, but again not mine...... So I need a GT4 basically!!! But small matter of being 3 times out my budget!
So in short I can see me rebuilding the Clio, with ITB's and a dry sump pushing for 250bhp!

Got the track days pics through now, which is also reminding me how epic it was! Much hinges on what's found when the engine is apart so until then I've banned myself from Autotrader and PH!

I love this thread so much drama. Needs to be a documentary

:tearsofjoy: I think it's because I'm just a big child and things like dry-sumping have a tendency to make me smile bigger than flashy cars do! But I would appreciate the car giving me a break sometime soon!:dizzy:

I admire your persistence and your never giving up attitude. I think we could all learn something from this.

So glad you have come to your senses!

I must applaud your mentality of "this part of the Clio died so I had better make it bigger, better or more powerful" it is one of the finest petrolhead traits and the reason this thread is an absolute roller coaster! I can only wish you the best of luck and wait with bated breath for the first screaming ITB video.

You are definitely due a break by now!
