New to buying a 197

Hi there, I'm looking to buy a 197 but just curious to see what common faults there are to look out for. I've never had a Renault so not familiar with the engine. Any advice is greatly appreciated :smile:

Gearboxes. 3rd gear synchro. If its grinding walk away

Ball joints. Make. Sure their alright or account for 200 pounds ish worst case for a repair

service history. Engines are strong as far as I'm aware once maintained.

Springs I believe can snap/break.

Then cosmetic stuff like steering wheel peel and seat bolstering.

That's all I got on hand anyway. Buy history over milage and best of luck with the search!

Thanks for the fast reply Jordan, That will come in handy :smile: I'm looking to buy next month so trying to do a few background checks first :smiley:

Welcome to the Family @LukeBridge there is a buyers guide which gives all the little tantrums our baby's throw at us.And it's only a fiver to join which gives you full access to the sales pages too and the How Too sections.
Welcome in mate. Can't go far wrong with what's been said so far and as said a fiver buys you so much info.

Faults I found with mine after buying;

- Keyless entry on drivers door didn't work (dunno how I missed this pre-purchase!)
- Worn engine mounts (later replaced with Powerflex ~£150 for 3 mounts + labor)
- Fan Speed #2 and a short while later #4 stopped working (local electrical garage fixed for £40)
- Knocking ball joint passenger side (still need to find somewhere to get this sorted)

Welcome Luke. Buyers guide is key. Know it inside out and have it saved on your phone to refer to when you're out looking.

That alone is worth the £5 member fee.

Good luck with the search.
