Upgraded speakers with standard head unit?

In keeping with the Clubsport theme I'm going with, I want to upgrade the system a touch, for clarity more than anything. I want to keep the standard HU. Not a fan of how aftermarket HU's look, for the most part.

Has anyone done this? Any recommendations on direct fit replacement speakers?

Thanks.

I think the ones most people go for are the pioneer TS-Q131C - I think @sevenfourate installed some other speakers from memory in his progress thread required some modding' to make fit. I was gong to upgrade mine, but since having the new exhaust installed i prefer listening to the car.

Like you I'm doing a more clubsport oriented approach, and so trying to retain a HU - but also think aftermarket HU's look crap! (I've not got the top readout anymore so oem stereos no good).
I've just ordered a Clarion FZ102E, got it now and feels and looks very oem in hand, just waiting for an aerial adapter and can see if the colour matches stock Clio colour. - might be an option for improving quality. It's also mechless so lighter

I've seen those before. My mate has one in his M3, as they also look very OEM in there too with the orange backlights.

I bought two pairs of these:

And two sets of conversion leads:

Less than £70 total. Very minor tweaking of the speakers to get to fit; and the sound improvement is very worthwhile. Even on the standard head-unit

See, I knew that you'd be the guy. :sunglasses:

Cheers mate. I'll get that setup ordered. What kind of tweaking did you need to do? Trimming the mounting cups?

Speakers come with 4 fixing tabs. Renault use two. These are slotted - so there is room for movement

So two can be cut, sanded or even bent off or back. Other two just need a tiny bit of sanding / filling to fit in the plastic door inserts.

Very little really.
