Leon 2.0T FR

I have just traded in my 07 Clio 197 for an 07 2.0T Leon FR. I pick it up tomorrow, but from what I could tell on the test drives its a very solid car that seems to shake off its weight very well using the torquey engine. Very nice ride, very quiet and im looking forward to a long blast to see if the pro's of owning this car out weight the con's of owning the 197. Must admit I sat in the Clio for about 20 minutes regretting my decision, odd how you can become so attached to a car that to be honest is very unecessarily flawed in so many areas, but hey ho 2 and a half years of ownership, the time has come.
Full review of the Leon in a week or so if anyone is interested?

That's a coincidence, I might be swapping mine for a Cupra shortly. 300 ponies with a bit of Revo action! I look forward to a more detailed review.

Dont think I can do a fair review on the car, im confident it has been mapped by previous owner, its doing in the region of 15 secs 0-100mph....oh well....saved me a few quid!

I too have considered this change for the same reasons, but for now with 2 years warranty to relie on I can live with the cars faults (for now)

Nice cars those leon FR's to be fair mate. Very different in terms of performance to the clio, you wont have to drive it like you stole it to get some power . Im sure you will love the car when you pick it up

The Cupra will be a very fast car im sure, Im loving the low down endless surge of torque, and my mpg starting with a 3! Lol. For some reason feel so much more confident throwing this into bends than the clio. I can now see the flaws in the clios light steering which caused me to make slight adjustments mid corner (and trust me I do know how to drive) where as the leon is in at one angle and hold it all the way thru. Really happy with the change and Im not looking back! Superb build quality, banging standard stereo and seats and in lary yellow, just as much attention. Would recommend one of these FR's and definately a Cupra.

Going to change the 197 soon and looking at an Ibiza Cupra or a Leon, waiting for the stealer to get one so we can test drive it

Good luck with the car Gaz,
Lovely car you have just purchased, i also looked at buying one, before my clio thought and my heart just went for the clio!

And yes people its strange how we all get attatched to our cars.. I got quite attatched to my little Campus Sport.

It wasnt modified...so as standard I was well impressed....its now been to JBS and had a stage 1 upgrade... 247 bhp 260 lb ft.... OMG! what a change and still got 30+ mpg. If the meganes reach 265 they must be seriously quick. Would def def recommend this engine in any derivative

Well, I test drove the Cupra I'd had my eye on earlier today and disliked it intensely. Didn't feel majorly quick, it had a weird shaped gearknob and steering wheel, snatchy brakes and bone-shaking ride that made my R27 feel like a waterbed! I'm not kidding when I say I was in pain when I got out after the test drive.

Cant comment on the Cupra as I only have the FR, but im well impressed with it. FR with remap is lighter and more powerful than cupra with softer suspension. cant see there being that much difference though, so maybe leon just aint for you

Firstly, congratulations on the purchase and goodluck.

However, I would hold off on talking up the torque and build. When I got my st (coming from a 225) I thought it had it all - torque, build you name it. After several months it was squeking and creaking and goodness knows what else. Not to mention the poor stealer support.

Just be careful, in my eyes Renault comes closest to meeting expectation, whilst Honda and Ford talk a big game but do not deliver.

The FR won't be lighter. It's virtually the same car, but the Cupra has all the front suspension components in aluminium, rather than steel, so it'll weigh less than the FR if anything.

Glad you're enjoying it, but, as you say, it wasn't for me.

The FR bought by the OP is over 2 years old, so if build quality isn't an issue by now I don't see why it would be later.
