New RB 200 Owner

Hi all,

Been a bit of a long time lurker but finally bought a 200 over the weekend! I've had a 172 cup and 182 trophy before and have wanted a 197/200 for years so pretty excited to finally have one! Been driving a boring 320d and A3 for the past 4 years...feels good have something fun to drive again!

Haven't really done anything with the car yet (not even a clean :tearsofjoy:) so no decent pics sorry. Here's a couple from my journey back on Saturday - came back via Snake Pass which was pretty scenic but didn't really get much of a chance to press on due to the traffic :confounded:

Plans, well it needs some love that's for sure :tearsofjoy: it's got H&R springs, 25mm spacers and a GT(?) spoiler but no other mods. Generally it's in good nick though and seems to pull pretty well :grinning:

To do list is currently:

1) Gearbox rebuild - crunches in 3rd and a little in 4th
2) New discs and pads on the front and a bleed
3) Think one of the wheel bearings is going on the back so probably new brakes on the back as well
4) New steering wheel - current one is falling to bits!
5) New HU as the current one is shite
6) New tyres within the next month or so
7) Wheel refurb
8) Service and a good clean!

After all that I'm hoping to get some regular track days in - been about 4 years since I've done one!

As sad as it's sounds it's also quite exciting to be part of a forum again :tearsofjoy: so looking forward to spending some time here! :grinning:

Cheers

Welcome. Great forum for all kinds of info. Really fancy a drive on the snake pass! Is it worth a visit? When there is no traffic obviously lol.. I have H&R springs fitted, very good on smooth roads and nice stance but in my opinion they are too bouncy/jarring on broken roads. Interesting to see how you find them, I am having a set of eibach coilovers fitted next week. Royal steering wheels do a cracking job retrimming as well. The RB looks mint:grinning:

Yeah it's worth a visit (depending on how far it is for you) - I'd just try and go in the week or first thing on a morning to avoid traffic as you get lorries, caravans and all sorts on there :worried: You could tie it in with the cat & fiddle as well if you wanted to do a bigger loop

I love the drop with the H&R's but agree they're not ideal on a bumpy b-road. Might benefit from different dampers maybe to help it track the road a bit better?!

Yeah will give Royal a shout - I think I'll get a cup style/1.2 with cruise wheel done as I prefer the shape of these to the FF one! FF one is too fat and chunky for me - needs thumb grips or something imo!

That side shot of your car in your avatar is mega btw - convinced me that RB was the colour to go for

Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy the site - lots to see and people to talk to!

RB is an awesome colour, the 200 does look so good in it! Enjoy!

Hi, thought I'd return the favour and welcome you. That is such a stunning colour!! Absolutely love it, looks great!!!

Yer might have to plan a road trip going through both of those! lol thanks. Yer it is only on properly harsh roads just seems that the rear never gets settled, some different dampers I am sure would help.

Yes! The wheel I had retrimmed is really chunky! The leather is just put straight over the top.

Thanks mate! That's awesome :grinning: nice to know people like my car as much as I do. I get quite a few comments, random people chatting to me about it which is always nice.

Best Colour imo, but then again i'd also be a bit bias haha! I've also gotta get my box sorted as mince crunches 3rd and a little bit of second in the high revs :worried:

Welcome in. I'd like to drive the Snake Pass myself sometime, preferably when it's quiet. I've been over it as passenger in a friend's Clio diesel, but she's not a petrolhead so it was a sedate trip. Maybe next time I am down to visit her, though it'll be a while as I'm in Scotland.
As has been said you have one of the better colours. Enjoy the car.

Welcome Rich

Lovely RB200!

Snake Pass is a great route, but Glossop at the top end can get really busy. Bottom end near Ladybower Dam is nice.
The road was really badly pot-holed when I went last in September.

The Cat & Fiddle road is nice, but theres a fair few cameras on it nowadays. Great scenery nevertheless and has to be ticked off your list.

First journey I did in my LY200 was over the Woodhead Pass, and it was choc full of slow cars it drove me mad lol

Since then I've done the Yorkshire Dales (Ribblehead Viaduct to Hawes is an awesome bit of road)
And Blakey Ridge in the North Yorks Moors.

Get those two ticked off and spend a night in a hotel to make the most out of two days

Look forward to seeing your updates mate
