forged meg 197 cup

Struggling to get the poxy pins out of the calipers, I know they can be a pain in the ass but these are welded in!

Local garage wants £80 to press all the bushes/bearings so I’m going to buy a 12ton press for £80 and do them myself ! Lol

Also the radiator support bracket looks like it’s been submerged in the sea for 10 years. Can someone remind me why we like these poxy little French rust buckets?!

12 ton press turned up, a few more parts too. Just waiting for the ball joints now which are on their way.

Might be able to get a couple of hours on the car today, need to try and free the pins out of the calipers which is proving to be a complete pain in the ass.

Think people grind them in half then knock em out. Assume you’ve got new pins going back lol

Cars done 50k miles and 8 track days (in my ownership) and I doubt anything suspension/brake wise has been apart in a long time.

Got the wishbone rear bush out in 30 seconds once the press was assembled.

However the wishbone “ball joint” just doesn’t want to know. I’ve never seen such a poor design for a ball joint tbh.
Two dissimilar metals wound together is a recipe for disaster.

Anyway, anyone have any good ideas on how to get the bastard out? Lol

Thanks for that mate, think it might be too far gone for the tool now as I got the hump and bashed 10 bells out of it! Lol

Might have to be a new wishbone :worried:
Yeah no chance of getting them out with that technique. I had to use abit 2m of leverage with the correct tool to remove.

Hub primed and painted, new bearing on. Radiator subframe primed and painted to tidy it up, wasn’t going to be much else tbh.

All ball joints out (except lower wishbone) ready for the new when they arrive.

Even managed to remove the abs sensor from the hub, it might live to see another day, not too worried as the abs will likely be removed in the future.

Managed to strip and rebuild the caliper new seals and dust cover, new bleed nipples and caps. Got the seized pins out in the end and fitted the new HEL braided line.

The new (cheap eBay) 12ton press has been good so far, well worth the £83 delivered.

My advice to anyone wanting to have a go at these jobs yourself would be to pay someone else to do it! Lol

Looks like standard cup stuff which tbh was pretty decent on track if it is..

Heat is your friend to get that lower arm joint out, aluminium will take on plenty of heat and then wire brush the hell out of the threads once it’s out

You haven’t seen what I’ve done to it! But there was a lot of swearing, a blow torch, and a 4” angle grinder involved.. lol

I’ve ordered 2 new wishbones now, it’s more a time issue. Will sort the old ones if/when time allows as I’ve got the new ball joints on there way.

Haha, hot spanner fixes all issues nicely normally
