I think the 3rd pic shows of the wheels better but needs some lows and spacers...

I’m with Ben that it needs black badges to the front and maybe full debadge the rear?

Just love being outside buddy. It's not 'just' about the cleaning. I hear ya though......but; give me a chance, I'm a week in and going as quick as i can !! ****Spacers and lows are desperately needed. Arch gap = LARGE !

Bought a pair of gas struts last week; and today have managed to buy the right Rose joint for the wing end, Ball and Socket joint for the bonnet end; and craft it on to the car as i may be under here quite a bit in the near future. Rather than a standard, fiddy old school wobbly arm....like the Clio also has.

So: i'm going to try to fathom out a nice way to fit the other one i've got here to the Clio - if anyone else fancies doing the same in the future i'll happily share details

So much to do to get ready for any serious track thrashing; just trying to chip away at it one bite at a time.....



Brake fluid changed for Motul RBF600 yesterday AM. Forgot pics....to busy swearing and getting frustrated for that

Original Valeo Clutch kit ordered Friday; courtesy of being alerted to a 20% off code for ECP right here on the forum. Not sure 100% if its truly fubar'd or not. This will hopefully put it to bed either way as it felt it was very likely a potential weak link in the future.


I managed to somehow scrape one of the alarm button's on the dash a few days ago. Picking at what i thought was a surface mark didn't help So i removed the panel; painted the rogue button and re-fitted whilst it was wet and horrible outside yesterday afternoon.....








Went to change pollen filter today - not one in there ??? Local Motor-factors supplied me the same size as everyone on ebay is selling; and it didn't fit Now we see why there isn't one in there ! So i've ordered a sheet of 15mm thick Air-filter foam which i'll cut to size; to at least be some sort of pre-filter and stop flies etc getting in the cabin. And down my throat



Spark plugs replaced as they were not done at the last service. For £15 its peace of mind.

And horrid 'cheese-headed' T20 torx bolts that held the coil-pack on - swapped over for some stainless cap-heads to make removal easier next time; after one was so tight i snapped the tip of the of the torx-fitting off in the head of the bolt as some Gorilla had done it up silly tight. (Some home scheming and head-scratching needed to remove them bad boys)........Grrrrrrrr

The Clio is my baby. And my spanner man is as; or more anal than me. I trust him implicitly. And he's a mechanic i'm not.....

This is what it is. I'm happy to give most things a go within reason and am going to fit the clutch myself. If i screw something here up 1/. It's not the end of the World and 2/. It likely won't be as expensive to rectify ! And 3/. I'm car-fund skint right now.

You scoff (sic) at the crisp stash. But if i'm honest i feel a true burning jealousy Ben. Well; me too. I'm also only allowed to look They are part of the kids packed-lunch stash. Although if i had a full pic you'd have thought we we're some of those Domesday Hoarder weirdo's.....

Taken me 3 days to begin to get my head around this

If i'm not losing it; you have a to-die-for Lotus Exige, a rather special M3 CSL; and the use of an especially nicely specced R27. So you cannot possibly be jealous of the £800 C2. You've probably spent more than that on Air filters for your 3 toys....

Productive day. Up at 5am to attempt to do some stuff before work; and straight on it when home too.

Took a lot of effort to get this puppy working. And you start to realise why some 'issue's' get left. Still there was light at the end of the tunnel....



Cut and made a 'pre-filter' to go in place of the cabin filter that doesn't exist for this particular model; and stop crud getting into the cabin - through the otherwise open pipework - when the fans are on:



Took delivery of my £48 (Yes £48 delivered in the ECP 'Sale' !) OE 3-piece clutch kit; which are supposed to be really good - and will handle a few engine upgrades too if we go that route. Fitting Wednesday along with 2L of fresh oil for the box:





Fitted new wheel-caps to finish off the freshly coated wheels. And the first of a few stainless jubilee clips / finishing bits for under the hood arrived and got fitted.....



Can't decide on Spax, Apex or Eibach springs. [All for a 35mm drop]. To be fair i likely can't afford them this month either ! But thats next along with some 15mm hubcentric spacers all round.....

You’ve got me.

But no. Ok yes. Jealous you can do things on a budget. But also definitely jealous of anyone who is handy with a set of spanners. I’m about as good with that as I am in the kitchen... “sweetheart, I think the toast boiled over or something?” And I’m so definitely jealous you have a garage that is yours and not shared with twats and skateboarding kids and the local dealer and his mates and god knows what else at nights...

But my point was I’m jealous you have something cheap that you’re going to have a laugh with and it doesn’t really matter. That’s really all I’m missing. Keep trying to persuade Mrs M we should build a fun little track car. The putting it together is a massive part of the appeal, I’m sure you’re no different, except you get to actually do most of the putting together yourself!

If you want brakes, get 307 calipers from a 2.0hdi, 285mm discs and a set of decent pads, I used Ferodo in my V6 in the end as I kept getting brake deposits on the V6 305mm discs and to be honest I never had any issues stopping 210bhp of partner so I’d happily put them on a c2 and you’ll stand it on its nose quite nicely!

Should fit under 15’s aswell! As they are no bigger bar 3mm than 306 gti-6 stoppers and they wore 15’s also

Or if you wish I believe 406 coupe brembos also fit on the same discs from memory as they bolt in sideways rather than radially like a Clio Brembo! The 406 use a 10mm offset to the outside of the rim mounting hole over a 307 so a 305mm to 285mm disc makes them fit nicely and the 285mm disc is 28mm like the 305mm 406 Brembo disc also

Perfect and superb info ! C2's is on 16's as standard - so no worries there. Sounds a great set-up i may be able to assemble 'cheap' and buck the system a little. Good stuff !

Defo worth trying a set of calipers, prob get em for 30-40 quid at the right breakers

Any more info just ask, I worked at a pug specialist for 10+ years!

Keep updates coming, this is interesting car.
We only have VTS versions in Finland.. (which is more powerful)?
Most of C2 VTS are now in rally what i know. I think it is good car for rally because they use it so much.

Thankyou. And ‘Yes’ Antti - correct.

The GT is 110bhp - the VTS is 123bhp. Essentially the same renowned and bullet-proof TU5JP4 twin-cam 16v engine, but the VTS came after the GT and was a later developement of that.

Infact the GT was / had to be made (2500 examples) in order for the C2 to be homologised for rally use in the Super 1600 Class as you eluded to. Mine is number 1265 of that 2004 year; limited run.

The difference engine wise is the VTS has an alloy inlet compared to the GT’s plastic version along with different cams and injectors. Fairly easily swappable if you wanted and many have.

The one good thing though: is that the GT came fairly well stripped as standard [No spare wheel, no air con, no fog lamps etc etc in order to make it lighter] and was nearly 40kg less at 1040kg - making up some of the power difference effectively.

At the moment we’ll concentrate on making reliable, and a little better on the bendy bits. If my son shows continued interest and desperately needs more power: we’ll perhaps visit that later.
