What a great race. Best one in a while. Fair play, NOT a fan but DR drove extremely well yesterday. One day someone is going to block him properly and he's going to go piling into the back of someone though. He very nearly did it with Bottas. When it does happen it might take the edge off his crazy hope for the best passes.

Hairy Bottas drove a MUCH better race, he needed that.

Great drive from Alonso too. Driver of the day after DR.

Lewis is having one of those periods where he's just not on it. Dunno what happens to him. He'll come good again and the championship standings are looking less scary now. He just needs a win under his belt and things will be ok. I think. The Ferrari is looking VERY quick though. How long can Kimi put up with just being Seb's bitch I don't know.

But, by FAR the highlight of the race was "twattish" young Max taking out little Sebby. Mrs M and I both stood up and applauded.   Was also very funny that he had a Seb moment and totally cooked his tyres in a childish tantrum and screwed his own race up even further. Priceless.

But even better was that he still finished behind Max even after the penalty! LOVED it!!!

Really great race, hoping for more of the same in Baku.

Only managed to catch the highlights, and got to say I had a big bloody laugh when Vettel got spun off, just a shame it wasn't a DNF... Red bulls fell lucky with the timings with the tyre change, would have been a different end to the race if the Ferraris and mercedes had some grip...

nah, Bottas would still have somehow contrived to end up 4th...

Disagree Chris, I think one of the best things about the race was Pettel getting punted off yet Max still finished ahead of him even after his penalty! We'd have missed the joy of that if he'd have had a DNF!

To be fair, and as impartial as I can be, if a drivers punts another off, and then finishes ahead of him despite a penalty, then a further penalty should be issued imo. For me, that's when a drive-through would have been more appropriate. Otherwise, there's nothing to stop a driver taking out a championship rival knowing that if he then bombs up the road while his rival is facing the wrong way, he can negate any time penalty. Verstappen got lucky in China, but he could have easily have ended Hamilton's race in Bahrain and still finished ahead of him.
Sadly I don't think the stewarding is competent enough to take these things into consideration.

Normally I'd agree, but as it's Pettel, I just found it piss funny!!!

Given the infringement, I think the penalty was the right one IF it didn't affect poor little Sebby's race like it did. But it did so it seems too lenient.

Either way, I loved it. And the post race fall out from his rabid fans online. Some of the stuff I've read is hilarious, the comments on the F1 instagram especially!

Very worried he's going to win it this year though. Let's see how it goes, we all know he's a bit of a bottler!

You won't be saying that if he takes the championship by 4 points, as thats what he picked up coming in 8th :mask:

Fuel limit is being raised next season to 110kg (from 105kg) in order to allow drivers to go 'flat out' for the duration of the race. They are also looking into making the cars able to follow each other more closely, although given they've been unable to do that since about 1995 I have zero confidence in them achieving this.

It's a start mate. But while we still have this manufactured "racing" with tyre strategy it's still a bit of a joke to me. Not enough combat on track, races shouldn't be won in the pits. Makes me die a bit inside when I see so many people banging on about what awesome stuff pitstops are.

As for the overtaking, I'd love for them to start properly regulating aero to cause less wake and make slipstreaming (remember that???) happen again. DRS is an abomination. Would happily kick everyone who made it happen in the plums. But yep, this is F1, I have a similar amount of confidence!

@///M yup - how the hell did F1 allow themselves to go from this:

Senna%27s_McLaren_MP4-8.jpg

to this:

esporte-carros-f1.jpg

Get rid of all the stupid add-ons, like the 49 extra wings at the front and sides, make the rear bodywork extend to the edge of the floor, and allow bigger rear diffusers. That then ends the need for the front to work the air so hard, and reduces wake, and thus allows cars to actually follow each other.

Could NOT agree more mate. Funnily enough I was looking at the MP4/8 this morning. It's a thing of absolute beauty and looks so clean and simple and perfect compared to the back of a spoon ugly crap we have now.

I keep hoping that someone is going to start a 1993 F1 rules series!

I agree with you both!

But the thing that irritates me the most is.... no defending!!

How exciting was it when people were gaining a second a lap on someone, and you KNEW they were going to be quicker when they caught them, so looking to overtake.
But then could they get past?! Who was the better driver? Could they dummy one way and then fly past the other way!

I loved that racing! Schumacher racing haha

BANG on mate. Defending seems to be a dying art. Some of me thinks its a knock on of DRS because they know it's pointless. But some of me thinks they're being pussies too. Danny Ric vs Bottas in China, Bottas started to cover him and DR realised it wasn't going to happen and started to give up on the pass, then Bottas just didn't move over enough and DR was like, oh ok, thanks. Pissed me right off.

Villeneuve in Jarama in '81 too. Four faster cars behind him, balls of steel to hold them off.

Nothing beats Villeneuve v Arnoux at Dijon though. Possibly the greatest ever bit of motorsport for me. Possibly.

Either way, the utter numpties in charge of F1 have ruined it to the point where the fans are leaving in droves now, they have to do something and quick!

Villeneuve vs Arnoux Dijon '79 is a great example - bumping into each other but all good racing. Imagine these whinging c#nts now racing like that.
