Northloopcup's FKU AG200

Thought I'd post up a bit of a progress thread for my AG 200.

Don't go expecting massive things as those days for me are over!

I bought this car with the intention of keeping it at a level that it could be returned back to standard, and with the possible hope that maybe one day, it'll be worth a few quid. My car is one of the 55 AG 200's that were produced, and one of only 2 in the uk market that were specced with the factory black roof.

Some of you may know of my mk2 cup that I built. Here's the link to the thread for those that don't - https://www.cliosport.net/threads/breaking-cover-ag-content-from-page-45.772072/ Needless to say, I like to do things a bit different to the norm!

Here's the old mk2 in all her glory! IMG_2478.JPG230bhp, 181lb/ft in a 900kg car was good fun.
And the heart of all that was this little creation:IMG_2538.JPGThat's a 197 head on a 172 block, complete with a few choice enhancements like R3 maxi pistons and cams, R3 maxi evo carbon airbox (never been fitted in a mk2 until that point!), custom loom, gearbox oil cooler, yada yada yada. I think you get the drift!
The original cup engine got me a 8:31 lap of the Nurburgring in tf way back (
), so this setup was all looking positive to see me cracking the 8:15's a couple of years back. Unfortunately due to this:
IMG_2689.PNGand a £2.5k weekend I chose to break the car for parts. At that point in time my wife was 6 months pregnant with our daughter, and tbh, I'd fell out with cars. The stress that weekend caused can't even be put into words!!

So I started looking for something different. This lead me back to my other passion - 2 wheels, so a plan was formulated and a decision was made that I was buying one of these:IMG_1349.JPGS1000RR. Well a certain little girl arrived in our lives in October 2016, and I just knew instantly that I couldn't put my wife through that level of stress every time I went out for a blast, and I certainly couldn't leave my little girl without a dad should it all go wrong. A new plan of attack was needed, but what? Well I used to own a climate control equipped 172 cup back in the day. This was my daily driver and I used to drive it like a hooligan! Lol! So much fun was had in that car and I knew that I was going to be back in a clio. This time in a mk3 though. A wanted ad was put up on cs.net...............and in to the story steps @Mossy who gave me the info on the mk3 build numbers. Turns out he owned a mk3 AG 200 in the spec I wanted...........

We had a chat via pm and he sent me some pics of the car. A date was arranged to go up and view the car. An hour and a half later and I was driving it home! Lol!! One of the pics sent to me by Paul: IMG_2971.JPGNow some of you may recognise this car as it used to be owned by a forum member! And what a fitting number plate! Mk2 FKU! My exact sentiments at the time!! Lol!!

I'm going to keep it standard he said. I like it just as it is he said. Ffs.

I remember the wanted ad well, isn't it one of not many cup packed AG's with ac?

Sure there was only 2/3 cup's in A/G with aircon?

Did you end up with a cup?

I bet It was an easy decision buying a Car from Paul with his standards.

In the meantime I managed to do something that had been a childhood dream for me for quite some time. Only one way to get there! IMG_3880.JPG And this was what it transported me to do: IMG_3883.JPG A flight in a spitfire!! What a day that was! Loved every minute of it!

So back to FKU. Ooh it just needs a bit more theatre, I thought. Needs an akra I thought. So I bought one and got it fitted. Ffs. IMG_3467.JPGIMG_3677.JPG Oh I! Much much better!!

Brakes are shit. Need improving. So I chose to replace the discs all round with genuine rear discs and some brembo hc discs up front. But I'm a tart and wanted j hook as I like the look of them. Ffs! So I had this done and combined them with some ds2500's all round. IMG_4744.JPGMuch better!! Well, maybe not! The ds2500's up front were, well, shit!! Ds1.11's installed instead and retained the ds2500's in the rear. Soooooooo I bedded them in: IMG_4121.JPGYou'll do for me bab!! Much better stopping power now. I also had the wheels refurbed whilst the wheels were off and wrapped in some ps cup 2's. Be rude not to right? Ffs! IMG_3457.JPGNow it sounds right, handles right and stops right! So I parked it in the garage and haven't driven it since November!! Tomorrow it's going for an mot, shame it'll be raining!

So what's the future hold for me and FKU? Well I've got the R3 access inlet cam and timing tool to fit at some point. Ffs!! Lol!

No mate this is a full fat 200. Finding a cup was going to be near impossible in the spec I wanted tbf.

When we arrived to view the car, my mate said, 'yeah we are buying that ain't we' lol!! Yes Paul has very high standards that's for sure! I've just improved it further.

What's the fun about staying standard? :excited:

Great to see a progress thread, but that video will give me nightmares until the end of the Spa trackday next week. :tearsofjoy:

Well it's definitely easier on the wallet mate! Lol!

Lol - just remember, spa won't charge you €480 to recover your car off the circuit! So you'll only have the £1000 recovery bill to pay for. :tearsofjoy:

Cheers mate.

Well we flew my spare shaft over with my mate, and that also turned out to be a shitter!! Fml!! A bad weekend was had by all!

The j hooks were added by Martin at Reyland Motorsport. He did the 2 piece brakes on my mk2 as well.

Cheers. There's more pics I could've added tbh, but I'll add them another day.
After going every year for 15 years without an issue, my luck finally ran out!!

HP4 Carbon...... very nice. HP4 Race is my screen saver

haha what a great story. Shame about the driveshaft but as you said, you've been going there for so many years without any issues, it had to happen right? And trust me I know where you are coming from, I've had issues whilst travelling abroad and it's not fun...
That 182 sounded awesome, any videos?
