Trackspec Clio 197

Had a good saving on the list price  should have it on this weekend. This evening I wrapped the down pipe ready.

I'll have a 2.75" down pipe and link pipe for sale shortly.

Could be interested... Would the link pipe fit into the standard Miltek system with some simple adjustments? Would obviously require a reducer to 2.5"

Didn’t get a chance to fit the whole system today since I wanted to do it outside in a bit more space so I could jack the car right up and of course it’s been dry all week until the weekend!!

However I did manage to fit the new downpipe and front link pipe ready. The rest would only take an hour or so to fit.

In the mean time I decided to rope in the Mrs and she shotblast and rust treated the rear box hangers since those were in such a terrible state.

All sprayed up now.

What have you Megane conversioners done for uprating the fuel delivery? Since the stock 197 pump is around 90ltr per hour and the Megane's larger but equally inadequate 125ltr per hour pump causes Megane's problems I'm thinking I will probably need to upgrade something. Talking to someone today about potentially running a Swirl pot, larger fuel pump and return feed to stop any potential issues. Of course that will mean having to run two lines, a custom fuel rail and teflon lines / fittings which of course come at great expense!

When I spoke to Paul at rs tuning he said they use a walbro 255 in the clio pump housing.

I'm opting (this weeks plan anyway) to run a MK4 R3T pump and sender unit from Rsport, I'll need to measure the resistance on the level arm and swap to the MK3 if required. But I've got pics of both and the top and lower half are fully interchangeable so everything should drop in place with no effort at all.
This will give a high flow pump and iirc 5bar reg - still returnless. I'll use a Torques adaptor on the pump sender to go from push-fit to -6, and a single line all the way to the rail. However just before the rail running an inline Radium Fuel Pressure Damper - which will help keep the rail pressure stable from acting like an FPR by smoothing injector openings which the pulsing can cause oscillations. On the other side of the rail I'll run a pressure sensor and it'll go to my AiM datalogger - so if I suffer any ill effects I'll know about it now, however I still haven't really seen any proper evidence or reasoning that these cars need a return setup. Every modern car runs returnless now and with much higher HP requirements.

That setup should work for a Meg swap tbh. Essentially it's like doing the Walbro 255 in the Clio sender, however grabbing the R3T means no modification or messing around to physically install the pump itself. - No doubt a 255 and some DIY would be cheaper. However the Renault pump pre-filters are designed for the life of the car and we don't need an additional fuel filter, whereas if running a Walbro pump/filter in the sender, you'd probably want an additional 10micron inline fuel filter pre rail.

Thanks for the information. I'm in the process of looking into it right now so will make a decision shortly. It looks like the most common upgrade is the Walbro 255 by the looks of things but from what I understand the fuel tanks are a pretty rubbish shape and offer little to no baffle which of course can result in fuel starvation particularly when the fuel level is low and moving from side to side, so simply upgrading the pump alone may not resolve the problem fully especially on a car that spends all it's time on track. This said I don't really want to spend a fortune on the fuel system right now so will have a good look at the options.

I'll be picking the car up first thing tomorrow morning since I dropped it off with Renault Four Ashes for a few little tweaks at the start of the week, it's also had an MOT put on it today so it will be going back on the road next week so I can put a few miles on it ahead of it's first track day since all the changes.

Looking forward to trying it out properly.
