UR 197 F1 Team R27 - Progress Thread

That's fantastic looking some work done, you must have the best bank manager out there. The car is looking awsum on those springs...enjoy
:uk:

Glad the lights got to you in one piece, they can be a nightmare to post, the internals are so fragile!
Really do love the F1 stickers, they really do look the part and the lights finish it off nicely. All in all, a stunning car.

Thank you Lee, but I can assure you it’s not that stunning in the flesh

Somewhere on my thread i measured the drop on mine. I know it was more than the 25/20mm they quoted. Especially / became more noticeable on the front. I THINK it turned out to be 33mm front and 25mm'ish rear from memory [In my thread somewhere - good luck finding it though !]

And 'we' (The forum) decided that the larger drop on the front was to increase rake, keep weight on the steering / driving wheels and further improve initial turn-in.

Either way; really glad you're pleased and i havn't got to be the butt of all your frustrations of choosing "the wrong ones".

LOVELY !

Wheel looks great!! I really need to get one ordered, fitting it myself is putting me off though - Can imagine an airbag going off isn't a nice thing haha

That worries me every time I change a wheel, but never had one go off yet.

They’re very easy to change Matt. Literally 20 minutes to get old off and put new on. Just remember to disconnect the battery about 15 minutes before you begin and do not connect battery until everything back together. If you attach the battery when the airbag isn’t plugged it, it will throw up an error code that will need reseting by a Renault Clip tool.

Also, do not spin the squib when the wheel is off or you’ll snap the paper coil inside once you reinstall and turn the steering wheel.

I’m sure there will be a guide on here, if not, I’ll pop one on tomorrow.

Wheel looks fantastic mate. Well done on going full alcantara too!

It feels fantastic to hold. As it’s one of the key contact points when driving, it really makes a huge difference to the driving experience.

I know alcantara isn’t as hard wearing as leather, but when it wears, I’ll just get it recovered. The one on my Mini looked and felt as good as new after a year and 7000 odd miles.

You're a star mate, thanks for that info! There is already a guide on here but thanks for offering to put one up!

I think I'll just get one ordered then I have no excuse but to fit it, mine is really looking sorry for itself!

Just PM me if you want advice when it arrives.

Don’t pull the airbag off too much after releasing the clip to the wheel, the connecting wires are quite short and I image you could easily pull a wire out of one of the airbag plugs or damage the plugs themselves.

Wheel looks great, amazing attention to detail! Very brave going for full alcantara, make sure you get in the habit of washing your hands every time you want to go for a drive to stop it getting grubby! [emoji23]

You take it off and scrub it in the bath [emoji23]
They're a nightmare to try and clean, which is why I got rid of my old one and got a momo team.

Saying that, they do look amazing though. Depends what your lifestyle is like I guess. My hands are covered in oil more than they're clean and I got sick of wearing gloves to try and keep my wheel clean.

Being an office worker for years and someone whose hands don’t sweat, mine have always stayed clean.

I do get a bit like a new over protective parent when I take it into garages for work though. I drop hints, rather than tell them to keep their dirty hands off it, “whilst I’m here, you wouldn’t know the best way to clean an alcantara steering wheel would you please? It’s a nightmare to keep clean and I get so bored of washing my hands before driving all the time” this usually precedes me seeing a staff member with filthy hands carefully place a plastic cover over my seat before jumping in and driving it into the workshop [emoji22]
