Renaultsport gearknob real or fake

So I recently bought a Renaultsport gearknob on eBay. The seller claimed the part was oem. After a week the part arrived but my heart dropped when I opened the packaging and saw some strange none oem box!
Nevertheless the quality seemed very good and the install was seamless with no modifications need.

Still I need to know was I scammed so does anyone know is there a way to tell of it is fake or really. Or has anyone bought from the seller before?

These guys sell a lot of Renaultsport stuff but I'm sure by the time you paid the postage it would have cost the same from the dealer. Some have said before they are a little slow posting out but I guess they order the parts from Renault then send them on £99 from Renault parts direct the forums discount parts supplier why not join the forum it's £5 a year I'm in Northern Ireland postage is what kills good UK offers.

99.9% it's genuine from this seller.

Interestingly - you've got the older (And quite sought-after design / logo).

Perhaps they came across a few out of the original packaging for some reason and re-boxed them ?

Far as I know the known fake items (Often on ebay and coming from Turkey) don't fit great, don't look quite 100% from new and longevity / finish is poor

I reckon you're good

I’d agree with Shuv, it looks very well made and just like mine, so I think it’s probably genuine too.

I also think the Renault Sport logo looks better then my R.S logo too.

I wanted the old logo one like this when I was looking for one, but because the net was plagued with fakes I didnt bother, I think you can tell by the weight of it to wether its real, ask some folks to weigh theirs?

I'd have liked an old logo one too as the plain "RS" doesn't suit the 197 IMO... Went down the V6 route instead which is better than standard but it's maybe not perfectly suited to the interior if I'm honest, it's a nice knob to hold though! :tonguewink:

Thanks all. Collectively you've put my mind at ease. I don't mind paying top dollar for something just can't bare being scammed. I automatically assumed that dealer prices would have been ridiculous, a smarter man would have checked.
Must say went for a spirited drive with a mate today and it's a very nice part! 47a347a0a173ee38a1df51d8f1a865b7.jpg

I was looking at these from this seller. They told me they were OEM but never had the box. As said they do sell loads of RS parts. Does it feel quite heavy? Is it in mint condition?

Yes and yes as well the fitment is perfect. Just don't loose the return spring for the reverse gate!

How does it feel compared to the old one. Thinking of buying one myself.

It feels as a driver's car should where the controls are tacktile and a pleasure to engage with. Whereas the standard item always felt a bit lightweight. The standard one reminds me of my 205 GTI gear knobs.

I hope that doesn't sound insensitive to those with standard gear knobs. Sorry if I've offended

It's a nice weighty piece of aluminium so it feels good in the hand. Personally I always preferred a ball type gearknob anyway so I'm happy with it. The weight doesn't seem to make any difference to the actual gear change, and if it does it's so small I didn't feel it.
Like what dear_dodger said I think visually it makes the cabin look a bit more special. So it's a resounding win from me. I will say I left the air con set to arctic, left the car and when I returned and put my hand on the gearknob got a bit of a fright cause it was so cold! [emoji23]
