UR 197 F1 Team R27 - Progress Thread

I thought I’d start my progress thread before I forget and lose track of my RS Clio.

I bought this about 3 months ago with 52,000 miles on the clock.

It was standard apart from

Milltek resonated system
Milltek decat
Powerflex top engine mount
Powerflex top stabiliser mount
ITG panel filter

It had wear to the passenger Recaro and the bumper undertray and both wheel arch liners broken or missing. Clearly it had been in a wee front end incident.

Other than that it drove well, even if the decat was a bit too noisy for my tastes and the engine mounts caused excessive noise and vibration.

First thing to go was the wheels a lovely set of Speedlines with Yokohama AD08R tyres.

I’d used these before on a few other cars and really rated them in the dry as well as the wet.

Oh yes, and added my air brake (roof rack) so that I can carry my bikes. However, I’m too lazy to take it on and off as and when needed, so it’s a permanent feature. Spoils the looks and whistles, but function first.

The Powerflex top engine mount was causing too much noise and vibration, so that was removed.

I read somewhere that you didn’t need to support the engine for this, but decided to anyway. Thank goodness I did as the engine still dropped about a cm.

The difference was night and day and as a road car only, makes driving it now far more pleasurable.

I bought an ITG Maxogen induction kit.

No photos I’m afraid as it wasn’t on long enough, way too noisy for my tastes.

Back to ITG filter in standard airbox.

Due to noise / age, the decat was swapped back for the standard cat.

Reduced noise and flat spot at lower rpm.

Car booked in September for the below;

Engine oil / filter change.
Gearbox oil change.
New OEM rear discs and pads.
Belts, pulleys and water pump.
Early 200 Cup shocks.
Eibach pro-kit springs.
OEM top mounts.
OEM anti-rotational links.
OEM Anti-roll bar links.
OEM top and bottom ball joints for hub carrier.
OEM ball joints for lower wishbone.

No problem with the car at the moment, but as they’re all about their chassis rather than ultimate power, I thought the above should return the car to like new feel.

My dash strips and centre console were looking blotchy, so I gave them a quick matt black touch up.

And treated myself to a Renault Sport gear knob.

Great start to the progress thread. And good on you for going back to largely OEM - the opposite of what most people tend to do

+1 on the alarm bracket - a very good upgrade

Car looks great, in the best colour too!

Still hate the fact mine doesn't have the door and roof decals!

Keep the updates coming! Always good to see a fellow UR R27.

It's going to be an expensive September for you but all worth while. It will feel like a new car again. Enjoy and keep us updated.

It is, best part of £2000 nearly including labour as filling it up with oil is almost beyond my skills. But I love the car and it will (hopefully) make it even better to drive.

I swithered on early 200 Cup springs, but after speaking with Shuv, thought I’d give Eibachs a try. If I don’t like it, I can always get OEM springs. Admittedly at even more expense, but you only live once.

FWIW, I skipped springs and went for Bilstein B14's and absolutely love them. Comfort of springs with the anti roll of coilovers. Well worth the money.

Cheers Matt, the decals aren’t cheap. I sometimes wonder if a retiree and grandparent should have such decals, but it keeps it as Renault intended and I feel a bit younger when I walk up to it in a car park, even if the kids on their BMX bikes laugh at me!
