Shuv's Racing Blue 200...................

Hi shuv, I have the das pro, great job but very rarely use it, if your going to use it on other cars I'd say go for it but from what I see yours doesn't need it! I haven't used mine in a few years now, a wash and quick detail is all I need nowadays tbh, when you car is in good condition it takes little to keep it!

Ps what about the seats?

Seats: My man has been ill. I'm hoping he's started this week - but may be next. I will be getting progress pics as he goes.....fingers crossed

I think I'm deffo going to order a polisher. Sills aren't great. Few scratches on the top of rear bumper and a couple of other areas whereva machine would save ALOT of long and hand polishing effort !

I'm sure it's a lot better than most; but like many - I'm still looking for something 'better'.

In passing I've had 2 x requests for machine polishing jobs today. So the machine will seemingly pay for itself.....

You seem pretty good with the mitts like myself so I would possible look at an orbital rather than a da, if I was to do it again I'd possible go for one rather than a da as I think you can get better results with one, granted you can do more damage with one in!

I haven't got one but I'd recommend a paint reader as it's always a bit of guess work when taking a layer off, it's an uneasy feeling when your using any cutting pad and compound.

I've always really enjoyed the tactile parts of detailing; and love being outside in the fresh air doing anything.

Machine polishing doesn't really excite me one bit - the process is just a means to an end in my eyes. But something i really could do with after having had it done 14 (?) months ago shortly after buying the Clio. After pondering if i could be bothered myself - or if it was better to pay to have it done / or if i should buy a DAS etc or ?????..... I've caved-in tonight and bought a cheap set-up. Which is unlike me in some ways.....but after this weeks horrendous and unexpected household bills i'm kind of 'proud' i did my research and ended up with:

Autosmart Fallout remover for paintwork.
Fine grade Clay-bar.
Sams Claying Lubricant.
Low tack detailers tape.
Challenge Xtreme DA Machine polisher - (That gets great reviews on Argos and a few on Detailing World).
3M Fast-cut plus and 3M Extra fine plus compounds.
Silverline 5" Backing pad.
And Hex logic type 5" foams

....All for the princely sum of £103 delivered to my door.

Hope it all works out ok. Next weekend is going to be a marathon 3-day session !

Just a word of warning with the Autosmart Fallout Remover - it doesn't bleed. It still works, it just doesn't change colour.

Also, a drop (or dollop?) of shampoo in a spray bottle topped up with water makes a perfectly good clay lube

Thanks for advice on fallout remover Greg. I could have been along while standing around like a tw@t waiting for that.......

You mean i've overspent by £5.99 unnecessarily ???

***I've used allsorts as lube on car before. Just wanted to reduce the risk of marring before i even started 'proper' !

Nice little shopping list there Shuv! Thoroughly researched as would be the norm with you  and I'm sure the results will be excellent, due to the same reasons  hope it all goes well buddy.

Cheers buddy. We hope so Jimmy !

And after watching an educational video Sean kindly sent me a couple of times on 'Vigins using a DA / Polishing for beginners' !!.......i've since added some buffing towels, some genuine 4" Hex-Logic green pads and a 3" foam backing pad to suit (For those tighter areas) along with some pad primer and a CREE high Lumen inspection torch.

Really looking forward to getting stuck in now. Intending to do the fallout process, wash, clay-bar and finally wash and dry again Friday after work; and stick it in one of the units at work overnight. Saturday i can then get in early and get straight to it for a couple of days.......

You might need to wish me luck. On my own and into the fire springs to mind !

@sevenfourate

Interesting watching if the pads you bought are cheap copies

@Sean197

Interesting ! Do it cheap....do it three times as they say perhaps......

The reviews and ebay feedback on those i bought were good. Even the UK seller [Damned sure it's a Chinese product mind !] says you can easily tell the difference between the hardness / cutting effect of the pads through; feel using your fingers - and more importantly seeing the results.

I've also now ordered some genuine HexLogic pads too - as i've already got a couple of requests to do 2 cars for friends...so will need a few over time im sure.

If you read around the net - the abysmally rated cheap HexLogic replica pads are normally called or branded "Tily".

So i'll know soon enough !

Cheers.

Came home tonight to some gearbox oil on the garage floor. Presuming that's from Saturdays outing to play tennis with my lads as i've not seen any before and the car was then in the garage all weekend.

Gearbox has always felt / driven perfect. And still is.

Hope this isnt the start of a big bill......

best to change the gearbox oil then. just to make sure it's still topped up.

Gearbox oil was changed 2 weeks ago Peter; and it's parked nightly in a garage with a painted floor. NO way possible i wouldn't have noticed a leak as i'd have seen it driving in or when messing around in the garage......

Was literally a spoonful....maybe. But will get it looked at tomorrow of course.
