Clio 197 Ultra Red 2007 from Finland. April, time to start driving.

Could you not get a passenger seat from a UK car and use the foam and cover?
Most passenger seats will be in very good condition, then you could have your trimmer swap it all over?

Foam and fabric is not problem, but seat heater is.. I dont think your car do have heaters? Heater elements are 1 piece for complete seat and price over 400£ :worried:

Finally bumper off, and grills prepped for paint

Oh I thought the side bolster foam is separate? So I meant more steal the side bolsters and steal the fabric cover, as the central foam should still be intact? Sorry I'm not sure how the heating elements on the Clio are, but on other cars it was only in the central area.
As I had my old Recaro seats from a Golf GTI apart to change the side foams, and the heating elements were only in the middle.

This car is so clean, makes mine look like it has been left to rot for years haha.

Good work mate

Front grills ready. Unfortunately 1 clip is broken.

1. Abrasive pad
2. Pre paint liquid

Right front spring is snapped, i took that bit away.
I have to order 2 genuine springs and 2 front shocks. I think because car is almost 110.000km driven, it might be just good idea to replace front shocks too.. All in all approx 400£ for 2 springs + shocks from RPD. I have to think some days if i need any other parts. Do you know how difficult rear shock replacement is?

Some winterbeater news
Maybe this will be last winter for this clio 197. I dont want to ruin it in salt anymore.
I have "winterbeater" ready. This is BMW E46 316 1.8 4 pot slugghish.. but it will take me work. At least it has good history, my father bought it 2005 new so basically it has been in my family from new. It is 254.000km driven, all working well.
It has engine/interior pre-heaters (230V AC) + seat heaters.
I have lot work with this car in this summer. I will polish paint work as good i can. I have too much spare time.. ? Yesterday i did inspection 2 service, BMW is so cool to service. Easy work.

In my opinion Clio197 is so perfect car to drive with standard suspension. I dont want to change that experience. Faulty springs are instant mot failure for sure.. have to fix.
And if i have to strip down shocks/springs, it is good time to replace shocks too..
What i found from How-to section, rear shocks are easy to change.

Clio out for a drive.
It feels SO good after E46 standard seats & small engine.

Winter plans

-4x Shock replacement
-New front springs
-Front brake caliber soda blasting / paint / seals
-Front radiator support blasting/paint
-More machine correcting..

I am currently considering special register plates for this car. How expensive those are in UK?
We can only choose 1-3 letters and 1-3 numbers. For example CL-10 or similar.
Here price is 850euros + registration+plates, total will be approx 900euros. Those plates are for 1 car only, you cannot take plates with you when you sell car..

900euros = 745£

4 Shocks and 2 springs ordered from renaultpartsdirect.co.uk, interesting to see how long delivery time.

Clutch fixed.

Luckily i have friend who is really good mechanic. He did master cylinder swap and clutch bleeding.
I bought DOT4 motul (seems to be working brake fluid for clio 197, at least better option compared with dot 5.1 fluids) Thanks for the tip @tombate911 !

Motul RBF600 DOT4 from my local motor part supplier, 15eur/bottle..

New Valeo clutch master cylinder. Maybe DOT4 only would be enough to fix sticky clutch, but i already had this part in my garage so why not to change..

Work in progress

It took 1 hour me to take enough parts off from car so i can reach clutch components. That battery casing was quite interesting to remove and install back..
big.jpg

French way to bleed clutch.. not difficult with bleeder machine.

Now clutch is much lighter to use. Pedal feel better and absolute no any squeek anymore.
Job done..
